Welcome to Woop Woop

Teddy, a con artist and exotic animal smuggler from New York City, travels to Australia to replace a shipment of rare tropical birds that escaped. During his journey, he drives through an arid desert in the Northern Territory, indicating the beginning of his adventures in the outback. His arrival sets off the chain of events that lead him to Woop Woop.

While driving through the desert, Teddy picks up Angie, a hitchhiker who quickly seduces him. They share an intense, sexually charged interaction before Angie asks him to take her to the beach, claiming she has never seen the ocean. This encounter marks the start of Teddy's complicated relationship with Angie.

At the beach, Angie proposes marriage to Teddy after a brief courtship. Pretending to accept, Teddy is taken by surprise when Angie suddenly knocks him unconscious, revealing her manipulative nature. Teddy awakens to find himself stranded, setting the stage for his imprisonment in Woop Woop.

Teddy wakes up in Woop Woop, a remote and dilapidated hamlet in the Australian desert. Daddy-O, Angie's father, explains that Teddy is now considered married to Angie and warns that no one can leave Woop Woop without his permission, with severe consequences for disobedience. Teddy begins to realize the town's cult-like control.

Teddy uncovers Woop Woop's past as an asbestos mining town that was abandoned after a 1979 accident. The town was repopulated secretly, with strict rules enforced to prevent incest and mutation, including corporal punishment and infanticide of disabled infants. The town's secluded existence and dark secret become increasingly apparent.

Teddy observes the oppressive society of Woop Woop, where the residents abide by cult-like rules. He sees Daddy-O and the elders secretly enjoying luxuries like television, football, and expensive beer while maintaining a façade of austerity. Teddy becomes enraged about the town's deception and control.

Teddy learns about Woop Woop's secret past and the strict rules preventing outsiders from leaving. Despite his attempts, Teddy's repair attempt on his vandalized van fails when Daddy-O vandalizes it again. Teddy witnesses Midget, a town hairdresser, being fatally shot during an escape attempt, deepening his resolve to find a way out.

Teddy befriends locals Duffy and Krystal, who help him plan an escape. Meanwhile, Angie runs away sobbing after discovering Teddy's romantic interest in Krystal. Angie later announces she is pregnant with twins, adding emotional tension and complications to Teddy’s escape plans.

As Krystal’s mother lies dying, she whispers a secret to Teddy that indicates a better future for him in Woop Woop and hints he might replace Daddy-O in the future. She advises Teddy to consider his options as Angie begins to threaten his newfound relationships.

Angie attempts to seduce Teddy, asking him to name their twins, and continues her manipulations. Teddy, feeling betrayed, knocks her out, gags her, and ties her up as an act of revenge for earlier deception. The tension escalates as their relationships strain further.

During Angie's mother’s funeral, Teddy, Krystal, and her pet cockatoo attempt to escape in a repaired truck. Angie escapes her bonds and frantically joins the pursuit, alerting Daddy-O. The chase culminates when Daddy-O's truck is totaled by a giant kangaroo, symbolizing the surreal and chaotic nature of Woop Woop.

Teddy and Krystal manage to escape across the desert, leaving Woop Woop behind as they drive away to the sound of 'You'll never walk alone.' The film then jumps more than a decade into the future, showing Teddy and Krystal living in New York City, hinting at their attempt to restart a normal life.

In a surprise post-credits scene, Teddy and Krystal are visited by their now-teenaged twins, Sonny and Cher, indicating their life continued and their children grew up, bringing a full circle to the story and the legacy of Woop Woop.
