As Professor Gordon Zellaby speaks with Major Alan Bernard over the phone, an unusual incident unfolds in the village of Midwich. Suddenly, all inhabitants and animals in the vicinity fall into a mysterious unconsciousness, shocking the community and drawing immediate military attention.
