Selvam Selvam and his friend Bhaskar Bhaskar are petty thieves who live by taking things from people. One day, they are hired to steal a Ganesh idol from a temple for a man who has just moved into a new house, claiming it will invite prosperity. They succeed, but they are spotted and chased by the crowd. They dive into a house and meet Radha, a maid who looks after the owners’ three children while the adults are away on a pilgrimage. Radha and the two men are locked in a room and forced to do chores for three days, and during that time she sees that they’re not as bad as their rep might suggest. This shared confinement sparks a quiet bond: Radha grows fond of Selvam, and he, in turn, begins to fall for her, all while trying to keep his feelings under wraps.
When the owners return, the trio is released, but trouble soon follows. Bhaskar steals Radha’s handbag, which contains her diary, and Selvam ends up reading it. He learns that Radha is the illegitimate daughter of Vishwanathan. After her mother’s death, Radha had met her father, who accepts her but keeps her in his household as a maid. Vishwanathan’s second wife and her sister-in-law immediately dislike Radha, and the family dynamics become a source of tension. Vishwanathan arranges talk of marriage between his brother-in-law, Sanjay Sanjay, and Radha, but Sanjay admits he’s unsure Radha has the qualities to be his wife and asks for three months to decide. Radha waits, hopeful but patient.
Reading Radha’s diary changes Selvam. Inspired by her honesty and strength, he tries to reform his life, taking on responsibilities and trying to keep his feelings for Radha hidden. Meanwhile, Radha’s fortunes begin to rise. The couple’s life takes a turn when Vishwanathan’s wife discovers that her diamond necklace is missing. In the search, she uncovers a cigarette butt in a drawer and, furious, she and her sister-in-law scold Radha and drive her out of the house. Selvam retrieves Radha’s bag and helps her find a place in a hostel. He works hard to pay the hostel fees and continues to support Radha. He even helps Radha pursue her singing talent, which leads to a pivotal encounter with music director Gangai Amaran Gangai Amaran, whom Selvam helps repair his car in the late hours. In gratitude, Gangai Amaran agrees to assist Radha with her singing career.
Radha’s star begins to rise as she delivers a few songs and achieves success, eventually moving into a bungalow with Selvam and Bhaskar. During an interview, Radha chooses not to reveal her father’s name. Vishwanathan, feeling exposed, finally reveals that he is indeed her father, while his wife, now attracted by Radha’s wealth, accepts Radha as her daughter as well. They come to live with Radha, though tensions remain: Vishwanathan’s wife continues to dislike Selvam and Bhaskar staying in the house. The family dynamic is further complicated by the plan to marry Radha to Sanjay, which has been a long time in the making.
Amid the public eye, Radha and Selvam’s romance faces new scrutiny. When Radha and Sanjay travel out of town for an award, Vishwanathan’s wife and sister-in-law stage a deception, claiming Selvam stole Radha’s money, and drive him and Bhaskar away. Radha returns home, finds Selvam’s diary in his room, and understands the depth of his love for her. In a climactic moment at an awards ceremony, Radha declares that her success isn’t due to wealth or family but to Selvam, and she admits that she loves him. As the ceremony unfolds, Selvam appears on stage, seen by Radha on a television screen, and the story flashes back to show Radha’s confession to Sanjay and Vishwanathan—and Sanjay’s acceptance of her choice. The film closes with Selvam and Radha leaving hand in hand, embracing a future built on love, trust, and newfound partnership.
