Ugly Me

Amanda catches Pepe in bed with her best friend at her friend's apartment. In a fit of rage, she threatens him with a shotgun and shoots him in the groin, hoping to stop the cheating. The incident triggers immediate legal and personal fallout.

As part of a court settlement, a psychiatrist evaluates Amanda. The evaluator concludes she feels no remorse and would do the same again if given the chance. She is subsequently fired from her job, prompting her departure from Santiago.

Amanda leaves Santiago after losing her job and relocates to Valparaíso. She rents a six month apartment as she attempts to rebuild her life. The move marks the start of a calculated new identity.

In Valparaíso, Amanda visits a church and befriends Brother Juan. They exchange life experiences and he becomes a source of support and guidance. The relationship foreshadows future collaboration.

To avoid romance and maintain control, Amanda adopts the Helena disguise, presenting as a frumpy middle‑aged woman with children. She uses this persona to navigate her new life and present herself in new professional circles. The disguise helps her secure the next steps.

Amanda, under Helena, joins Max's architectural firm and is introduced to Guillermo, Karen, and Marcelo. Marcelo in particular becomes a focal point for her manipulation. The office becomes the arena for her plan.

Max assigns Amanda to lead a maintenance investigation on a project. Guillermo and Marcelo accompany her, but the conversation mainly centers on women and sex, leaving Amanda to do most of the work. She nearly exposes her true identity when a flashlight moment nearly reveals her in Marcelo's eyes, yet she averts discovery.

After work, Amanda and Marcelo go out for drinks. She lies about having two children and lectures him on the value of genuine love rather than casual sex. Marcelo asserts his desire for a particular kind of wife, revealing his superficial ideal.

Realizing the potential, Amanda deepens the Helena facade and befriends Marcelo. Marcelo is puzzled by her bold treatment but becomes drawn to the domestic life she pretends to have. Karen grows envious of their closeness.

Amanda asks Brother Juan to bring two orphan boys to the office to act as her sons. Marcelo enjoys playing with them and Amanda even teaches him to cook for Helena. Their relationship grows as the deception deepens.

Marcelo invites Helena to his apartment and confesses his love. Amanda convinces him to dress as a woman and handcuff himself to the bed, then pretends to cut his chest with a fake knife. Police rescue him, and the incident becomes a brutal media joke.

Marcelo and Karen begin dating and get engaged; Amanda attends as Karen's maid of honor. Brother Juan senses Amanda's love for Marcelo and urges her to tell him the truth, but she resists.

On the day of Marcelo and Karen's wedding, Amanda's dentures fall out during the vows, revealing her true identity as Helena. Marcelo realizes both women are the same and ends the engagement.

Despite the earlier deception, Amanda and Marcelo end up married. They share a life with their dog, three children, and are expecting another baby. The film closes on their seemingly content domestic future.
