Tim Willows, John Hubbard is the driving force behind the advertising agency Manning, Willows, and Clare, a trio completed by Adolphe Menjou as Phil Manning and William Gargan as Joel Clare. His wife Sally Willows, Carole Landis, luxuriates in a life of pampered ease at home, while the couple’s constant bickering is fueled by a mysterious Indian idol they inherited from a distant relative—a figure they simply call Mr. Ram.
After an especially stressful day at the office, Tim longs to walk in Sally’s shoes to experience her seemingly easier routine, and Sally, tired of Tim’s domineering pace, quietly wishes to take his place in the bustling world of work. The idol, its presence looming on the wall and speaking in a booming voice, Grant their wishes and flips their lives—body and all—so they literally wake up in the other’s life.
The switch plunges them into immediate, comic chaos. In Sally’s body, Tim remains at home, managing the household and the staff while Sally, inhabiting Tim’s form, returns to the advertising firm and must navigate its intense dynamics. She dives back into the fray with brisk confidence, even threatening to upset the firm’s biggest client, yet she also lands a new client that Tim had previously refused, proving that a different approach can yield surprising results.
As day fades into night, the two lovers-turned colleagues confront the mess they’ve created and plead for a return to their authentic selves. The idol grants their request, and life seems to revert to its familiar rhythm: Tim must tidy the fallout Sally created at the firm, and Sally offers apologies to friends as everyone attributes the upheaval to Sally’s supposed pregnancy.
Yet Mr. Ram reveals a final twist: the reversal wasn’t perfectly executed, and the new order leaves Tim in the surprising position of carrying a pregnancy.
