What Happens in Trip Ubusan: The Lolas vs Zombies: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Trip Ubusan: The Lolas vs Zombies (2017) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

At a restaurant, a man consumes crispy pata made from organic pork and falls ill before collapsing, reanimating as a zombie, and infecting other patrons, starting a deadly outbreak.

The Lolas arrange a home camping session for their granddaughter Charmaine Caprice Cayetano’s ninth birthday. Charmaine invites their neighbor Ivy Rochelle Pangilinan to join, but Ivy is chased back home by the zombified version of herself and is killed by the Lolas, who are unaware of the looming crisis unfolding outside their family circle. Fleeing to their private air field, the Lolas and Charmaine stop at a gas station to stock up, only to become caught in another sudden zombie outbreak. In the ensuing chaos, Charmaine is separated and finds herself among a group of teens and friends: Aladin [Kenneth Medrano], Irish [Taki Saito], Cath [Shaira Mae dela Cruz], and Will [Miggy Tolentino], along with Aladin’s sister Marcy [Ryzza Mae Dizon], their friend Melo [Jhayvot Galang], a prickly Eva [Angelika dela Cruz], and Loid [Archie Adamos], who is an escaped prisoner posing as a jail guard.

The group escapes in a tour bus driven by Jordan [Arthur Solinap] with his assistant Abe [Lovely Abella]. The Lolas are left behind, but they manage to catch up later when they find a motorcycle to rejoin the chase. After news reports reveal the expanding crisis, the passengers stop at an abandoned mechanic shop to “zombie-proof” their ride. That night, Melo, who had eaten infected pork, reanimates inside the bus and attacks Irish before Loid shoots him through the chest. Will and Aladin warn that a horde of zombies is approaching. In the ensuing confusion, Cathy tries to rescue Will but is knocked off the bus by Eva. The Lolas arrive and fend off the undead just in time to be reunited with Charmaine, though they are heartbroken when Will and Cathy reappear as zombies.

The group advises Jordan to head to their private airport to locate their aircraft, but the facility is overrun with zombies. As they scramble for another path, Eva’s ringing phone betrays their location and draws a new wave of attackers. Loid and Aladin manage to pull the survivors to safety, but Lola Nidora [Wally Bayola] is bitten, a fact she initially hides until Eva discovers Charmaine tending to the wound and forces her to confess. Despite Eva’s demands to remove Nidora from the bus, the others choose to keep her aboard, arguing that her injuries are not yet fatal.

The survivors decide to proceed to a military safe zone. At a checkpoint, they pretend Nidora’s infection is a stroke to avoid inspection, but Loid’s real identity is revealed, resulting in his arrest. The group expresses gratitude for his aid, and he reciprocates before being taken away. Soldiers instruct them to reach an extraction point where they would be evacuated by boat, but as Jordan parks the bus, a fresh zombie assault erupts, forcing the group to split. Jordan is bitten and retreats with Abe inside the bus, confessing his feelings for her before stabbing himself to prevent reanimation. Aladin and Irish end up trapped in an abandoned building, with Irish comforting Aladin as he nurses a bite he later realizes was caused by a shard of glass.

Eva and Marcy reach the extraction point, but Eva, watching her reanimated husband, chooses to leave him and allows herself to be bitten. The Lolas and Charmaine arrive just in time to slip away from the pursuing horde and the exploding mines, boarding a rescue boat. Realizing her injuries have worsened, Nidora jumps into the sea, leaving Charmaine and the others in grief.

At the safe zone, Charmaine and the surviving Lolas are reunited with Marcy, Irish, Aladin, and Abe. To their surprise, Nidora reappears, having been cured by exposure to seawater. Charmaine then receives a call from her mother, Maine Mendoza Charmaine’s Mother, who reassures them with news of their condition.

Q1

Why does Melo reanimate into a zombie on the bus?

Melo reanimates because he ate infected pork at the gas station earlier. During the stop at the gas station, Melo consumed food that was contaminated with the zombie virus. The infection incubates in his system, and he turns mid-journey aboard the bus, attacking Irish before Loid shoots him to stop the threat.

Foreshadowing: The gas station stop earlier in the film is where Melo first obtains the contaminated food.

Q2

Why does Lola Nidora hide her zombie bite from the group?

Lola Nidora hides her bite because she fears being abandoned or left behind once the others discover she has been infected. When Eva eventually discovers the wound on Nidora's arm while Charmaine tends to it, Eva demands Nidora be removed from the bus. The group ultimately decides to keep her aboard, arguing the bite hasn't yet turned her, reflecting their choice to protect family over caution.

Q5

Why does Jordan stab himself instead of turning into a zombie?

Jordan stabs himself because he has been bitten during the zombie assault at the extraction point. Knowing that the infection will turn him into a zombie, he chooses to end his own life rather than risk harming the others after reanimation. He retreats into the bus with Abe, confesses his feelings for her, and takes his own life to prevent becoming one of the undead.
