Tommy and the Wildcat

Tommy relocates to Lapland with his zoologist father, Olli Oksa. Olli explains that his mission is to return the Leevi lynx to the wild, a plan that unsettles some locals who rely on reindeer herding. The boy also learns about his mother's death and that his aunt Maria sided with the lynx, setting an emotional backdrop for the journey.

Tommy befriends Leevi the lynx at Ranua Zoo and learns that the lynx is destined for transfer to a Turkish zoo. The zoo manager and staff decide to offer one more test before finalizing the sale. The boy resolves to protect the lynx from losing its home.

Leevi fails the predation test, disappointing Olli and jeopardizing the rehabilitation plan. Olli questions whether the effort is worth continuing. Tommy's hope hinges on the lynx learning to hunt on its own.

Desperate to stop the sale, Tommy hides in a truck carrying Leevi. Jaska stops the vehicle after a fox is run over, and Tommy seizes the moment to release the lynx. The risky stunt strengthens the bond between boy and animal and heightens the conflict with the zoo.

Oula warns Tommy against feeding the lynx, insisting that Leevi must learn to hunt on its own. The boy's idealistic rescue attempts clash with the harsher realities of wildlife rehabilitation. This moment foreshadows the ongoing struggle to balance care with survival.

Leevi ends up trapped in a cage equipped with a radio signal. Tommy moves the cage away in a bold effort to help the lynx, using a log raft to cross the river and free it again. The escape demonstrates the lengths he will go to protect Leevi.

In winter, Olli persists in trying to capture Leevi, but the search goes on without success. Herman Haapala, a local hunter, plots to hunt the lynx, complicating the conservation effort. Oula warns that the odds are growing against the lynx.

Tommy learns that Jouko killed the lynx his late mother had tried to care for, paying Haapala back for past wrongs. The revelation fuels the boy's anger toward his uncle and strains their relationship. Yet the memory of his mother's care for the lynx motivates him to defend Leevi.

The lynx's predation drives Haapala to push Jouko into the hunting plan, and Jouko locks Tommy in the barn. The confinement tests their bond and the boy's resolve to protect Leevi intensifies. This moment marks a turning point toward reconciliation.

Jouko's mindset shifts after a snowmobile outing with Haapala, leading to Tommy's break from the barn on skis. Oula arrives and takes him on a snowmobile as they continue the pursuit. The sequence heightens danger while showing growing cooperation.

Tommy locates Leevi trapped and Haapala approaches with a gun. The lynx attacks to break free, and Haapala is knocked into a ravine with Tommy. In the freezing darkness, the boy fights to survive and protect his new ally.

A border guard helicopter searches the area with a thermal camera and a rescue party eventually finds Tommy and Leevi. After the ordeal, Jouko apologizes to Tommy for killing the lynx his mother cared for and they begin to rebuild trust. The lynx is prepared for release back into the wild.

Haapala arrives on crutches and offers a gesture of reconciliation, telling Tommy to take the lynx so far that no one can easily find it. Tommy releases Leevi into the wild and, with tears in his eyes, watches the lynx vanish into the snowy forest. The moment marks a fragile peace between people and wildlife.
