What Happens in Tiyanaks: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Tiyanaks (2007) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

A school organization sets off on a Holy Week retreat, led by their religion professor Professor Earl. As the trip unfolds, they realize they have been misdirected and, with few options left, must spend the night in a desolate house where only a mother, Mildred, and her son, Biboy, live.

The boy has three playmates who grow jealous when Biboy declines to join them in play, and their jealousy sharpens into a vengeful resolve. Nights later, the children reveal their true form as tiyanaks, beings with elemental powers of water, air, and earth, and they begin to attack the group, killing and disabling members one by one until only the professor, Mildred, Biboy, and a handful of students remain.

The mother dies when a tiyanak bites her while defending her son. The students manage to kill two of the tiyanaks with holy relics, but they cannot finish off the last one. The professor proposes a baptism-like solution, submerging the final tiyanak in the pool to end it.

Days later, the survivors host a small gathering; Shiela checks on Biboy, who has contracted a fever. When they seek answers, Biboy’s eyes flare with fire and his head becomes engulfed in flames, revealing that he himself is a tiyanak.

Tiyanaks Plot Explained: Your Questions Answered

The questions people ask most about Tiyanaks (2007): what happens in the confusing scenes, why the characters do what they do, the twists, hidden details and what the ending means. Each answer contains spoilers.

Q1

Why did the tiyanaks attack the group?

The tiyanaks attacked because they were Biboy's three playmates who became jealous when he stopped playing with them to spend time with the visiting students. Their jealousy turned to revenge, driving them to hunt down and kill the group members one by one using their elemental powers of water, air, and earth.

Foreshadowing: Earlier, the timeline notes that the playmates' resentment toward the newcomers escalated as they plotted revenge.

  • tiyanak attack
  • jealousy
  • playmates revenge
  • biboy friends
Q2

How were the tiyanaks killed in the movie?

Two tiyanaks were killed by holy relics that the students used against them. The final tiyanak was defeated when Professor Earl proposed a baptism-like solution, submerging the creature in the house pool. This ritual proved fatal for the supernatural being, ending its threat.

  • tiyanak death
  • holy relics
  • baptism ritual
  • kill tiyanak
Q3

Why did Mildred die in Tiyanaks?

Mildred died while defending her son Biboy from a tiyanak attack. When one of the tiyanaks bit her during the assault, she was killed while shielding Biboy, sacrificing herself to protect him. Her death left Biboy vulnerable and marked a turning point in the survivors' fight.

Foreshadowing: The timeline shows Mildred's role as a protective mother figure from the moment the group arrives at her house.

  • mildred death
  • biboy mother
  • protect son
  • tiyanak bite
Q4

What does the ending reveal about Biboy?

Q6

What was the significance of Shiela's dreams?
