We open with a captivating sequence showcasing four parallel narratives that will later intertwine throughout the film. In a moment of jealousy, Lauren Hathaway covertly punctures the tire of her partner, actress Rose, suspecting her loyalty. To satisfy her curiosity, Lauren sets up a hidden microphone on Rose, aiming to eavesdrop on her conversations in their time apart. Meanwhile, Rose is eager to attend casting calls for a new project helmed by [Lester Moore](Richard Edson), as she hopes to secure a pivotal role.

In the midst of this, [Alex Green](Stellan Skarsgard), the studio executive managing Moore’s film, grapples with his own personal turmoil, mostly revolving around his wife, Emma (Saffron Burrows). Emma expresses her relationship struggles to her therapist, portrayed by Glenne Headly. Compounding Alex’s issues is his battle with substance abuse—these troubles severely hinder his decision-making skills in the studio and jeopardize both his marriage and his involvement with Rose.

As the drama unfolds within the studio, a local spa has sent in [Quentin](Julian Sands), a masseuse fluent in Latin, to provide massages during business meetings. Excitedly, Rose visits the studio, intending to charm Alex into helping her secure a coveted audition. The narrative also highlights the day-to-day activities of producer [Evan Watz](Xander Berkeley) and his interactions with Alex and the other executives as they strive to keep the production moving despite Alex’s evident struggles.

The plot thickens when [Scott “Bunny” Drysdale](Kyle MacLachlan) introduces his client, Euro filmmaker [Ana Pauls](Mia Maestro), who brings innovative project ideas into the boardroom alongside white rap star [Joey Z](Alessandro Nivola). This shift propels the film into a realm where screwball comedy meets a bittersweet reality, showcasing the chaotic atmosphere of a typical workday. Amid the backdrop of flirtation, substance use, and unexpected natural events, the camera captures a vibrant, tumultuous world filled with both laughs and uncomfortable truths.
