Adonis Kyrou’s famous maxim—“learn to look at ‘bad’ films, they are often sublime”—applies to his own early work. Before fleeing Greece after the 1967 coup, he made a chaotic first cinematic depiction of the WWII Greek resistance. Its Brecht‑like style sparked heated, divisive reactions at Cannes’ 1966 International Critics’ Week, yet the film now enjoys a rarefied critical status, praised for audacity more than polish, a quality Kyrou later admired while profiling director Jean Rollin.
