The Wedding Plan

Michal, an Orthodox Jewish woman in her thirties, feels the weight of over a decade’s worth of failed relationships. With a strong desire for change, she resolves to seek the insights of a fortune teller to aid in her quest for love.

During her visit to the fortune teller, Michal is told that her wish for love will soon be fulfilled. The fortune teller also references her son, Shimi, who runs a wedding hall in Jerusalem, and suggests Michal utilize his services for her upcoming nuptials at a discounted rate.

Michal becomes engaged to Gidi and they attend their wedding tasting which is an important cultural ritual. However, during the tasting, a sense of unease washes over Michal, leading her to confront Gidi about his feelings.

After a tense conversation, Gidi confesses that he does not love Michal, shattering her hopes for a future together. In the wake of her heartbreak, Michal decides to end the engagement, choosing to move forward with wedding plans independently.

Michal embarks on a series of blind dates that only deepen her frustration with the dating landscape. Her experiences range from an encounter with a man who can only focus on his wife to a meeting with a deaf man who becomes angry at her lack of genuine interest.

In search of solace and direction, Michal makes a heartfelt pilgrimage to the grave of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov. Overwhelmed by emotions, she cries out for a divine connection while grappling with her spiritual journey and feelings of isolation.

While at the grave, a famous Israeli pop star, Yoss, overhears Michal’s laments from across a separation barrier. Their conversation blossoms as Michal reveals her desire to marry on the final day of Hanukkah, despite not having found a groom.

After her pilgrimage, Michal returns home only to be surprised by an unexpected visit from Yoss. To her astonishment, he proposes marriage, but she senses a lack of sincerity and ultimately declines his offer.

As her wedding day approaches, Michal is gripped by panic as she still hasn’t found a suitable groom. Disheartening dates leave her feeling more lost, raising doubts about whether her dream will ever come true.

In a moment of desperation, Michal decides to reach out to Yoss in hopes of rekindling their connection. However, when she proposes to him again, he gently turns her down, leaving Michal feeling even more despondent.

The eve of Michal's wedding is fraught with emotional turmoil as her mother expresses skepticism about the situation. Yet her sister and friends try to maintain a hopeful outlook as the wedding guests prepare to gather.

As anticipation builds among the wedding guests, Shimi unexpectedly steps forward to ask Michal to marry him. Initially in disbelief, she wonders if this is truly happening or simply a moment of pity.

Recalling memories from their first meeting, Michal reflects on how much they have both grown. After grappling with her doubts, she ultimately agrees to Shimi’s proposal, allowing herself to embrace this unexpected twist in her journey.
