At the turn of the twentieth century, Arvid falls in love with the young Lydia. Though their affection is strong, societal expectations deny them a fairy‑tale future. While Arvid struggles to build a stable life for them, Lydia's desire for comfort leads her to marry an older, wealthy man, forcing both to confront the limits of love and ambition.
