A Norway‑Sweden co‑production, Anja Breien’s first feature since Wives adapts Hjalmar Söderberg’s novel. Set between 1897 and 1912, it explores Scandinavian social mores through the indecisive young journalist Arvid. He loves a woman who marries a wealthy older man, while he is pressed into marriage with his lover. When his first love returns, she leaves her husband for him, yet Arvid still cannot abandon his current wife, highlighting his inability to choose a life path.
