The Saint Strikes Back

During a New Year's party, the Saint spots an agent of Valerie Travers preparing to shoot someone. He guns the agent down first, at the stroke of midnight, preventing the murder. Witnesses place the Saint at the scene, drawing police attention.

The San Francisco police request Inspector Henry Fernack of the NYPD to assist with the case. Before Fernack can depart, the Saint arrives in New York and accompanies him on the trip to the West Coast, setting up a cross‑country pursuit of Waldeman's network.

Valerie Travers learns her father, a police inspector, was fired on suspicions of working for Waldeman and subsequently committed suicide. She resolves to clear his name by any means necessary, and the Saint agrees to support her despite initial hostility about his motives.

The Saint wins cooperation from the police commissioner, but Chief Inspector Webster and criminologist Cullis resist, wondering if the Saint himself might be Waldeman in disguise. Their doubts create tension as the investigation broadens into Waldeman's network.

The trail leads to Martin Eastman, a seemingly irreproachable philanthropist who is revealed to be Waldeman's front. Templar forcefully disengages Travers' gang to proceed, and with burglar Zipper Dyson robs Eastman's safe of a large sum; the serial numbers show the money was stolen in Waldeman's earlier robbery.

Eastman contacts Cullis instead of reporting the theft, revealing Cullis's allegiance to Waldeman. Templar and Fernack deduce Cullis's involvement and move to warn Travers, while Templar leaves Fernack behind to fulfill the warning and defeats a Travers henchman in self-defense as they flee.

Fernack becomes convinced that Templar is Waldeman, complicating the alliance and threatening to derail the plan. The suspicion colors his every move as the trap tightens around Waldeman's circle.

The next morning, Templar replaces the stolen money in Eastman's safe, ensuring Waldeman will be exposed as Eastman's front man. Eastman, however, is killed while fleeing his house, tying Waldeman to the money and to Eastman's operation.

That night, Templar and Travers return to his apartment where Fernack waits as planned, and they lure him to Cullis' apartment. The police have wired Cullis' place as part of Templar's trap, enabling them to control the confrontation from a distance.

During the confrontation, Travers tricks Cullis into admitting that he framed Travers' father in exchange for money. At the same moment, Templar is confronted by Waldeman in the kitchen, heightening the tension of the imminent showdown.

Fernack arrives in time to shoot Waldeman, ending the mastermind's crime ring. Cullis is arrested by the police, and Travers thanks Templar for helping to clear her father's name as they part ways.

With Waldeman dead and Cullis in custody, Travers's name is cleared and the Saint's intervention is vindicated by law and order. Travers and Templar part on respectful terms, each continuing their own path but grateful for the victory over Waldeman.
