The Prince and Me

Paige Morgan, an ambitious pre-med student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, is determined to carve out a successful future for herself. Across the ocean, Denmark’s Crown Prince Edvard, often referred to as “the prince of playboys,” is feeling the weight of his royal duties and longs for a more liberated lifestyle. His interest piqued by a risqué television commercial showcasing lively Wisconsin students, Edvard boldly reveals to his parents, King Haraald and Queen Rosalind, his wish to attend college in America—specifically, Wisconsin—under the guise of anonymity. To facilitate this thrill-seeking endeavor, his devoted majordomo, Søren, is tasked with keeping Edvard’s true identity concealed as “Eddie.”

Upon his arrival in Wisconsin, Eddie’s transition into campus life takes a wild turn when he crosses paths with Paige at a local bar. In a moment of misguided bravado, he requests her to mimic the provocative actions from the commercial, which results in a beer shower and a swift ejection. Although Eddie later attempts to apologize, Paige, still steaming from embarrassment, finds herself thrust into a mandatory partnership with him in their organic chemistry lab—a class vital for her dreams of entering medical school. She firmly asserts her boundaries by warning Eddie to steer clear of her experiments and scolding him after he oversleeps for their lab sessions.

As Eddie’s financial resources begin to dwindle, he takes on a job at the bar’s deli counter, where, surprisingly, Paige steps in to assist him on his first day. Their relationship gradually strengthens as they overcome their earlier conflicts; Paige aids Eddie in handling daily tasks while he helps her navigate the intricate works of William Shakespeare. Together, they form an unexpected yet effective team, blending Eddie’s practical skills with Paige’s scientific acumen.

When Eddie learns about American festivities like Thanksgiving, Paige graciously invites him to her family’s dairy farm for a harvest celebration. There, Eddie connects with Paige’s father, who expresses the ongoing challenges of managing their small farm. Using his inventive spirit, Eddie improves a riding mower, entering it into a local race and clinching victory—a triumph that creates tension with a rival racer, Keith Kopetsky, who lashes out at Eddie after the competition. In the heat of the moment, Paige tends to Eddie’s injuries, and they share a tender first kiss beneath a blanket of stars.

Despite their burgeoning relationship, academic responsibilities loom large, and they find solace in stolen moments at the library. However, their bliss quickly shatters when Danish tabloid photographers intrude on their private world, forcing them to escape the ensuing frenzy. During this tumultuous period, Paige uncovers the truth about Eddie’s royal background, leaving her heart heavy with disappointment, which leads her to distance herself from him amidst a rainstorm.

Back at the university, Paige faces a rigorous oral exam on Shakespeare and grapples with her emotional turmoil—her feelings for Edvard overshadowing her earlier aspirations. In a desperate attempt to reconnect, she races to his living quarters, only to learn from his roommate, Scotty, that he has already set off for Denmark.

Unwavering in her intentions, Paige follows Eddie to Copenhagen, where fate intervenes in unexpected ways. A splendid royal parade stalls her taxi, and as she steps out, the crowd recognizes her, calling her the beloved of Edvard. Swarmed by the public’s attention, Eddie seizes the moment, commandeering a horse to whisk Paige to the castle for an urgent parliamentary session.

Although the queen harbors doubts about Eddie’s affection for Paige, King Haraald provides wise counsel, asserting that if his son truly loves her, he must propose marriage. With the king’s endorsement, Edvard pops the question, and much to everyone’s surprise, Paige agrees. Their royal path is fraught with challenges, yet the queen gradually acknowledges Paige’s positive influence on Edvard, recognizing the growth he undergoes through their relationship.

Nevertheless, at the coronation ball, Paige grapples with the bitter reality of her circumstances—the sacrifice of her ambitions to work in medicine for a life bound to royalty. Heartbroken, she ends the engagement and returns to her life in America.

In the wake of her departure, King Haraald abdicates the throne, paving the way for Edvard to become the new monarch. As Paige graduates with her medical degree and gears up for new opportunities, Edvard’s heartfelt promise resonates: he vows to wait for her as long as it takes, placing her dreams at the forefront of his priorities.
