Katie Jessica Simpson Gregerstitch and Billy Drew Fuller are high school sweethearts from Minden, Oklahoma, bound by a first love that still feels fresh as they plan a wedding in the near future. Billy is an aspiring model who heads to New York City with a pledge to return in six months, keeping that dream alive while the couple navigates the distance. On Valentine’s Day, Katie’s grandfather gifts her a bus ticket to surprise Billy, but the moment she arrives in the city she uncovers him in bed with another woman, a discovery that abruptly ends their engagement. The heartbreak sends Katie looking for support, and she winds up staying with her cousin Haley Rachael Leigh Cook, an aspiring actress who nudges Katie toward a broader, independent life. When Haley lands an audition, Katie steps in to fill her role as a messenger, dipping her toes into the bustling world of the city.

During a delivery to a large building construction company, Katie befriends Debra Penelope Ann Miller, the deputy director with big ambitions. Debra hatches a bold plan to climb the corporate ladder by framing the current CEO, Richard Connolly Larry Miller. She and her assistant Freddy Andy Dick quietly orchestrate a staff reshuffle—disposing of Richard’s secretary and placing Katie in a position where she can be molded into the perfect pawn. Debra gives Katie a stylish makeover, and, with a CV embellished by Freddy, Katie lands a job with Richard. In the mix, Katie forms a genuine bond with Ben Luke Wilson, a postman who works at the same building and quickly becomes her ally in a world that feels both thrilling and dangerous.

As Katie tries to prove herself, she conceives a plan to attract a coveted investor group. Debra and Freddy sabotage the bid, and although Katie is fired, she manages to secure a second chance from Richard. With Ben’s support, she wins over a group of Norwegian investors, turning a precarious moment into a glimmer of triumph. Yet the corporate maneuvering intensifies when Debra steals a confidential marina project from Katie’s notes, a disclosure that could topple Richard’s leadership if used unwisely. That same evening, Ben visits Katie for a date, and Katie’s grandfather reappears, quietly watching over the young duo as they navigate the tangled web of ambition and trust. Back at home, Katie discovers that Ben is not just a friend but also connected to the very figure she’s been challenging—Ben is Richard’s son. This revelation becomes a catalyst for a new plan as Katie and Ben decide to outsmart Debra. Haley and a few friends stage a spoof investors’ presentation, pretending to back Debra’s project, while Katie presents her own proposal to the real investors, who respond with genuine interest and approval. Debra’s ruse unravels in a blaze of arrogance, and she is fired as the investors turn their attention to Katie’s authentic vision.
