A retelling of the Pied Piper shows a town infested with rats turning to a trombone player (Jimmy Durante) after the mayor, a Lou Costello caricature, begs for help. He offers to drive the rodents out for a fee, leads them into a cage with his music, then is denied his reward. Wearing a “Hank Swoonatra” suit, he lures townspeople onto a showboat, releases the rats and they swarm the mayor, giving him a taste of his own neglect.
