A grandfather tells his grandchildren the tale of Hamlin, a town besieged by rats. The villagers hire a Pied Piper who promises to rid them of the pest for 200 gold. He plays music that lures the rats into the river. When the townsfolk cheat him, paying one coin, the Piper avenges by leading them away, showing promises must be kept and the piper paid.
