Small-town veterinarian Edgar Mason learns from a news report that his daughter Chris is set to marry Freddie Browning, a much older and wealthy man. Martha Mason pushes the match, while Edgar disapproves and vows to intervene. He decides to use a calculated ruse to steer Chris away from the arrangement.
