Jean, played by Gad Elmaleh, is a reserved waiter and bartender at an upscale French hotel, feeling utterly out of place among the high-society clients he serves. One night, while tending to a nearly deserted bar, he receives an invitation from an elderly guest to take a moment for himself. Falling asleep on the bar’s sofa, he is blissfully unaware of the unfolding drama around him.

Enter Irene, portrayed by Audrey Tautou, a stunning young woman skilled in the art of seduction. With a reputation for charming wealthy men into financing her lavish lifestyle, Irene is currently with the older Jacques, who promises to celebrate her birthday in style. However, after a night of indulgence, Jacques passes out before fulfilling his promise, leaving Irene alone and disappointed. She wanders into the bar, where she finds the unsuspecting Jean asleep and mistakenly perceives him as a rich patron.

Intrigued by his tuxedo, she awakens him, casually mentioning her birthday and her wish for a cocktail accompanied by music. The attraction is undeniable as they share warmth and laughter, leading them to an empty suite for a night of passion. Through the chaotic ups and downs, Jean and Irene’s paths continuously cross, ultimately igniting a profound attraction between them. They decide to leave their extravagant lifestyles behind to pursue a more authentic relationship and ride off together on Jean’s scooter, symbolizing their newfound freedom away from wealth and deceit.
