An American director journeys to contemporary Berlin to produce a movie about a 1942 episode in which thirteen Jewish prisoners were offered freedom in exchange for starring in a Nazi propaganda film—a promise that was never kept. As he retraces the tragedy, his own psychological struggle and moral doubts become central, shaping this artful, challenging work.
