Ah Pao Ah Pao dreams of mastering kung fu so he can avenge his father’s death at the hands of the Ghost Faced Killer Ghost Faced Killer. This ruthless figure is relentless in tracking down clan leaders who allegedly conspired against him, and he signals his approach with a distinctive ritual: he drops the “ghost face killing plate,” a decorated metal plate bearing a red face, before unleashing his feared five elements style.

At a local kung fu school, the path to greatness is steeper than Ah Pao expects, and he is harshly bullied by the senior students. The school’s Master Cook Master Cook takes an interest in the boy and tests his resolve in a strange, telling challenge: steal one grain of rice from the Chef’s bowl. Ah Pao succeeds, but not through pure skill—he cheats, waiting for the master to finish his meal before seizing the grain. The encounter leaves him with a glimpse of real technique, yet the master warns that true mastery might remain out of reach. Tragedy and fear soon ripple through the institution: Ah Pao is expelled when he’s found in possession of the Ghost Faced Killer’s symbol, and the school itself shutters its doors in the shadow of looming danger. With the classroom no longer an option, Ah Pao seeks a new mentor in the old xiangqi master Chi Siu Tin Chi Siu Tin. Chi Siu Tin is presented here as a seasoned fighter who once led a kung fu faction but was forced into hiding after a brutal injury and intense scrutiny by the Ghost Faced Killer.
