The Mountain Between Us

The film begins at an airport where Alex Martin eagerly anticipates catching her flight to Denver for her wedding. Unfortunately, she learns that her flight has been canceled due to a severe storm, leaving her desperate for a solution.

Simultaneously, Ben Bass is grounded as well, needing to perform urgent heart surgery on a young boy. In a moment of serendipity, Alex approaches Ben to discuss their shared predicament, and they start to devise a plan to reach their respective destinations.

They meet Walter, the owner of a charter plane capable of flying them to Denver. Along with Walter's dog, they embark on a flight that holds a glimmer of hope amidst the chaos of the storm brewing outside.

During the flight, Walter suffers a stroke while trying to communicate with air traffic. Without sufficient training, Ben attempts to assist Walter as the plane experiences a critical malfunction and ultimately crashes into a remote mountain area.

After the crash, Ben awakens to a grim reality: Walter is dead, and Alex is unconscious with a severe leg injury. Despite his exhaustion, he tends to her wounds, knowing they must work together to survive.

When Alex regains consciousness, they realize they have limited food supplies and are isolated in the wilderness. They begin to search for ways to signal for help, while also sharing personal stories to maintain hope.

As they make attempts to survive, Alex encounters danger when a cougar stalks them. In a brave moment, she uses a flare to scare the cougar away while Ben tends to the injured dog who had fought the predator.

After several days, Alex urges Ben to move forward, but he insists they remain put. They eventually choose to leave the wreckage, but their progress is halted by a raging river, forcing them to seek shelter for the night.

As they grapple with their fragile existence, Ben asks Alex to take a picture of him, fearing it might be his last. The weight of their past looms heavy, forcing Alex to confront her own haunting memories.

During their journey, Alex falls through thin ice into freezing waters, and Ben risks his own life to save her. He manages to pull her out and builds a fire, demonstrating the depth of his care as she fights for recovery.

After days in a coma, Alex finally wakes up to an emotional conversation about their lives. The bond between them deepens as they share a kiss, igniting feelings they were beginning to recognize and explore.

While scouting for help, Ben accidentally steps into a bear trap, leaving Alex in a precarious position. Alone and ready to collapse, she bravely seeks assistance and manages to flag down a truck driver.

Ben awakens in a hospital to discover that Alex is there, accompanied by her fiancé Mark. The reunion is full of unspoken feelings, leading Ben to quietly leave the room, struggling with the emotional turmoil of their situation.

As time passes, Ben and Alex both attempt to move on with their lives; Ben adopts the dog, and Alex continues her life with Mark. Yet, memories of their connection haunt both of them, especially during social gatherings.

Eventually, Alex sends Ben a note with photos, hinting at their shared experiences. Their subsequent meeting reveals lingering feelings, leading to a passionate reunion as they fully embrace their love forged in adversity.
