The Monkey

In 1999, Petey Shelburn attempts to return a cursed drum-playing toy monkey to an antiques shop. Just as he is about to destroy it, the monkey starts playing its drums, triggering a deadly chain reaction that results in the shop owner's disembowelment.

Shortly after the incident at the antiques shop, Petey mysteriously disappears, leaving his wife Lois to raise their identical twin sons, Hal and Bill. This incident marks the beginning of a series of tragic events linked to the monkey.

Years later, Hal and Bill find the monkey while rummaging through their father's belongings in a closet. They wind the monkey's key, unwittingly setting off a chain of deadly events.

During an evening dinner, the monkey unexpectedly plays its drums, leading to the accidental decapitation of their babysitter, Annie. This horrifying incident deepens the family's turmoil.

After Hal winds the monkey's key out of spite towards Bill, their mother Lois suffers a sudden aneurysm and dies in front of Bill. Hal is engulfed in guilt, which prompts him to dispose of the monkey.

Following their mother's death, Hal and Bill move to Maine to live with their aunt Ida and uncle Chip. They hope to escape the horrors associated with the monkey and start afresh.

In Maine, the monkey mysteriously reappears at their new home, reigniting the terror Hal tried to escape. Bill, intrigued by its power, winds the monkey's key despite Hal's dire warnings.

As a result of the monkey's curse, their uncle Chip is tragically trampled to death by a stampede shortly after the monkey is wound. This event solidifies the brothers' fear of the toy.

Desperate to rid themselves of the monkey, Hal and Bill decide to seal it in its box and throw it down a well. They hope this will finally put an end to its reign of terror and keep it hidden.

Twenty-five years later, Hal is estranged from both Bill and his own son, Petey. He fears that the monkey's curse will return if he deepens his connection with Petey, whom he sees only once a year.

Hal receives news of a tragic incident when his aunt Ida is suddenly killed in a freak accident. This tragedy leads to renewed fears about the monkey and prompts Bill to contact Hal.

Bill calls Hal, expressing his suspicion that the monkey has returned to wreak havoc in the town. He relays that bizarre and fatal accidents have been occurring since Ida's death, raising alarms about the monkey's power.

Upon arriving in town, Hal witnesses a series of deadly events, including a woman exploding after the motel pool is electrified. This unsettling series of accidents reignites the urgency to confront the monkey.

Hal discovers that Bill now possesses the monkey and is using it to exact revenge for their mother's death. Bill has been waiting for the right moment to retaliate against Hal, using the monkey's curse as his weapon.

In a climactic showdown, Hal fights to prevent the monkey from causing more destruction. Eventually, the brothers reconcile over the trauma of their past, but not before the monkey delivers a final, deadly blow.
