The Man from Button Willow

As the first transcontinental railroad is built, unscrupulous land grabbers buy up property to push prices higher and block the project. The U.S. government recruits a covert team of Senate investigators to stop the scheme and protect settlers. Justin Eagle operates from his ranch, the Eagle's Nest, near Button Willow, helping shield the land from theft.

Justin returns from business in San Francisco and is greeted by his adopted daughter Stormy and ranch hand Jeremiah 'Sorry' Baker. The homecoming establishes the personal stakes amid the ongoing land-grab conflict. The looming threat from Blaine and the Whip is already evident in town.

Justin learns that Montgomery Blaine and his henchman the Whip are in Button Willow, pressing settlers and pushing illegal land deals. Their presence signals the increase in danger for those resisting the land grabs. Justin remains vigilant, preparing to counter their schemes.

Savannah gives birth to a foal sired by Rebel at the Eagle's Nest. The foal bolts into the mountains, followed by Justin's dog Shady and his pet skunk Alfie. A cougar attack on the foal prompts Rebel to intervene, injuring Shady but ensuring the foal's safety.

Abner Hawkins informs Justin that several settlers have lost homes and land to arson and force. Senator Freeman travels to San Francisco to investigate the schemes. The investigation heightens tensions as Blaine's influence threatens to derail it.

Shortly after beginning his inquiry, Senator Freeman vanishes, leaving the settlers' protection in jeopardy. Without his vote, the land-grabbers could force a change in policy or in the coming elections. The disappearance becomes a catalyst that drives Justin to act.

A homing pigeon delivers word that Freeman has proof Blaine cheated and must be reached in San Francisco. The message accelerates Justin's plans as the clock ticks toward a political showdown. He heads toward the city to confront Blaine and recover Freeman's evidence.

In San Francisco, a tip leads Justin to the Shanghai Kelly saloon, where a sailor is shanghaied under cover. To investigate, Justin starts a fight as a ruse and trails the shady proprietor. The sequence ends with Justin being pulled into a trap door and shanghaied himself.

Justin is forced into a crewed ship after the trap door drops him into a rowboat and the captain shanghaies him. The ship sets sail with him trapped aboard, beginning a dangerous voyage toward the fates tied to Senator Freeman. The intrigue intensifies as data about the senator's whereabouts remains unknown.

During the voyage, Justin discovers that Senator Freeman is being kept captive on the same ship. He teams up with kidnapped sailor Andy Svenson to challenge the crew and plan a counteraction. The future of the investigation rides on their daring plan.

Justin and Andy attack the ship's crew, knocking many overboard and seizing a measure of control. They force the captain to sail back toward San Francisco, aiming to deliver Freeman to safety and thwart Blaine's schemes. The audacious plan raises the stakes for everyone involved.

The mission ends with the ship returning to San Francisco and Blaine and his henchman Whip being imprisoned for their crimes. Justin's clandestine protection network has, at least for the moment, secured justice for the settlers. The community begins to rebuild as the frontier conflict cools.
