The Killing Games

A couple strolls through the woods on a beautiful day as the man proposes. The woman accepts and then offers to have sex on camera on the dirty grass, setting a disturbing early tone for the story. The scene establishes the moral and violent undercurrents that will unfold.

Two men, Dirty Jesus and Son of Satan, arrive and threaten the couple. They murder the man and assault the woman, who is killed. The attack marks the film's violent inciting incident.

Elysia and her friend witness the carnage from a distance. The killers pursue the two and eventually capture Elysia's friend, escalating the danger for everyone nearby.

Birdman, an ageing white redneck living in a dilapidated shack, celebrates his 49th birthday while his wife lies in a coma. The melancholy mood of the home underscores the loneliness and longing in his life.

Birdman's Metis friend senses Elysia's danger and the two of them keep watch, praying for her safety. The vigil is punctuated by a 10-minute musical interlude performed by the Metis friend for Birdman's comatose wife.

Intercut with the song, the killers brag about their past victims as the footage plays. The scene deepens the menace, hinting at a dark history behind Dirty Jesus and Son of Satan.

A gang of criminals plot to steal a briefcase, but their plan goes wrong when the robbery victim's prostitute draws a knife and attacks. The prostitute and the robbery victim are killed, and the gang leader grows furious with his subordinates.

Elysia returns home while Birdman stays awake to guard her, keeping a wary watch over the fragile household. The night drags on as danger remains ever-present.

Pierre, Birdman's hooligan nephew, arrives high on drugs and recounts a grotesque story about a child swinging around a limbless decaying torso. His tale adds a surreal, unsettling note to the film's atmosphere.

Drake Edwards asks Birdman to tow his broken-down car, and they discuss Drake's dreams of becoming a news broadcaster. Birdman confesses that he once wanted to be on TV but gave up the dream.

They hear on the radio that two men have been arrested for murdering a banker, and Drake and Birdman speculate these might be the killers Elysia mentioned. The moment briefly relieves their tension, but the day is far from over.

Back at the shack, Birdman orders rent from tenants in his extra shack, who are Dirty Jesus and Son of Satan. They kidnap and kill Juanita and assault Elysia, forcing Birdman to witness the horror.

The gang leader arrives with Leon/Liam and eliminates Dirty Jesus, while Elysia shoots Son of Satan with a shotgun in the final confrontation. The violence peaks as loyalties and fates collide.

The final twist reveals that Birdman is not Elysia's father; the gang leader is. Drake Edwards is shown landing a job as a weatherman and giving a shout-out to Birdman, while the closing image shows the gang leader and Elysia embracing.
