On a bright day, a couple strolls through the woods as a man gathers the courage to propose, and the woman quietly accepts, imagining a moment of intimacy that unfolds on camera in the dirtier grass. But the scene takes a brutal turn when two men—named in whispers as Dirty Jesus and Son of Satan—arrive, threaten the couple, and swiftly end the man’s life while violently assaulting the woman, who also dies. This shocking act is witnessed by Elysia, Yunona Edwards, the supposed daughter of Birdman, along with her friend, who become targets of pursuit as the killers leave the area.

Birdman, Kelly A.H. Bird, is introduced as a weathered and solitary figure living in a dilapidated shack. He’s marking his 49th birthday while his wife lies in a coma, a fact that gnaws at him with grief. A Metis friend sensing danger to Birdman’s daughter, joins him in prayer for her safety, a quiet counterpoint to the chaos outside. In a stark, almost ritualistic moment, the Metis friend performs a ten-minute song for Birdman’s comatose wife; the sequence cuts between this performance and footage of the killers boasting about their past victims, hinting at a haunting pattern of violence that threads through the lives intersecting in this place.

Meanwhile, a cadre of gangsters hatches a plan to seize a briefcase, but their scheme quickly spirals out of control when the robbery victim’s prostitute pulls a knife and turns the tide, resulting in the deaths of both themselves and a furious gang leader. The fear and tension in Birdman’s world intensify when his daughter returns and he pledges to stay awake through the night to shield her from whatever danger remains.

Pierre, Pierre Ellis, Birdman’s hooligan nephew who has previously slept with Elysia, drops by while visibly high, recounting a disturbing, almost surreal story about a child swinging around a limbless, decaying torso. In the middle of these looming threats, Drake Edwards, Barry J. Gillis, offers Birdman a favor—helping tow his broken-down car, with Drake’s girlfriend waiting inside. During their ride, Drake shares his dream of becoming a news broadcaster, while Birdman reflects on a life-long wish to appear on television that he ultimately set aside.

Radio chatter brings a glimmer of hope that the two men involved in the banker’s murder have been arrested, a justification that pushes the group to believe the immediate danger might be easing. They return to Birdman’s shack with a sense of relief, only to discover the gang’s leader still on the run, intent on hiding from the police. In a brutal unraveling, the gang leader eliminates almost all of his own crew, sparing only Leon/Liam, before crossing paths with Birdman’s Metis ally again, exchanging a quiet moment of restitution for twenty dollars.

Birdman’s companion Juanita, Connie Stevenson, a figure who appears briefly yet exerts a palpable influence, threatens Birdman’s wife to secure an insurance payout after her death. The doctor attending Birdman’s wife—a man who harbors his own affections—confesses his love and updates the family on her condition. Juanita overhears and, in a chilling turn, suffocates Birdman’s wife with a plastic bag. The Metis friend marks the moment with a spiritual funeral song, while Birdman and Juanita push forward with their own plans and tensions.

As negotiations over rent at Birdman’s extra shack unfold, the tenants reveal themselves to be Dirty Jesus and Son of Satan. They kidnap and kill Juanita and violently assault Elysia, forcing Birdman to witness the brutality as his head is repeatedly smashed into a car by Son of Satan. The arrival of the gang leader, accompanied by Leon/Liam, shifts the balance: they eliminate Dirty Jesus, and Elysia, armed with a shotgun, retaliates and blows Son of Satan away.

A devastating twist then comes to light: Birdman was never Elysia’s father; the true father is revealed to be the gang leader. In the aftermath, Drake Edwards emerges with a successful broadcast career, publicly thanking his friend Birdman as he lands a job as a weatherman. The film closes on a stark, intimate image—the gang leader and Elysia embracing—leaving a final imprint of intertwined fates and unspoken debts.
