The Keep

In 1941, after the start of Operation Barbarossa, a motorized Gebirgsjäger unit under Captain Klaus Woermann arrives at the uninhabited citadel known as the Keep to seize control of the Dinu Pass. The fortress sits silent and foreboding, hinting at dangers beyond its walls. This mission sets the stage for a confrontation with a power that lies beyond the ordinary.

Privates Lutz and Anton attempt to loot a metallic icon within the keep and inadvertently awaken a spectral entity. Molasar emerges and immediately begins to kill nearby soldiers, seeding fear among the unit. The disturbing incident marks the first direct threat from the force haunting the fortress.

Over the following days Molasar claims five more lives and begins to take a more defined corporeal form. The keep and its surrounding areas grow increasingly perilous as fear and madness spread. The supernatural presence becomes central to the soldiers' experience of the siege.

A detachment of SS Einsatzkommandos under Sturmbannführer Erich Kaempffer arrives to address suspected partisan activity in a nearby village. Kaempffer orders executions and takes several civilians hostage, escalating brutality despite Woermann's protests. The German command structure grows fractious as the horror outside mirrors the horror inside the fortress.

At the urging of Father Mihail Fonescu, the Germans retrieve the ailing Jewish historian Theodore Cuza from a concentration camp. Cuza deciphers a message written in Old Slavonic using the Glagolitic alphabet carved on the citadel wall. Molasar's influence already touches the villagers as the mystery deepens.

Molasar saves Eva from assault and cures Cuza of his scleroderma by touch, forging a dangerous debt between Cuza and the entity. Molasar demands that Cuza remove a talisman from the keep to free the entity. Cuza's moral compass tightens as he weighs loyalty against his own humanity.

From Axis-occupied Greece, a mysterious stranger named Glaeken Trismegestus arrives and seduces Eva, drawing Cuza's ire. His presence signals that Molasar's power exceeds the fortress and hints at a larger cosmic conflict. The locals begin to sense a new, otherworldly balance of power at play.

The malignant power begins driving the villagers toward madness, blurring lines between superstition and reality. People react with fear, confusion, and hostility as the entity's aura grows stronger. The entire community becomes a battleground for supernatural manipulation.

A group of soldiers fires on Glaeken, forcing him into a ravine, yet he survives the encounter. The attack demonstrates Molasar's reach beyond the fortress walls. Kaempffer's determination to control the threat hardens as the situation deteriorates.

Kaempffer shoots Woermann in a fit of rage and discovers his garrison slaughtered by Molasar, with the vehicles inside the courtyard disabled. The discovery exposes the consequences of brutal orders and the true cost of failing to confront the haunting force. The murder marks a turning point in the German command's path.

As Cuza approaches the talisman to remove it, Eva tries to intervene, but Cuza initially refuses Molasar's command to kill her. Molasar reverses Cuza's physical improvement, returning him to his diseased state and tightening its hold. The moment tests Cuza's humanity against the entity's coercive pull.

Glaeken arrives, retrieves the talisman, and confronts Molasar in a decisive battle. Molasar is weakened and banished back into the innermost recesses of the keep. Glaeken is transformed in a storm of light and seals the aperture to imprison the entity once more.

With Molasar contained again, the villagers are freed from its influence and escort Eva and Cuza away from the fortress. The community returns to a fragile normalcy, aware that a dangerous force once lurked nearby. The film closes on a note of cautious relief and lingering mystery.
