After the disastrous events of the 1984 All-Valley Karate Tournament, John Kreese vents his frustration towards Johnny Lawrence in a tense parking lot encounter. Mr. Miyagi intervenes, using his calm demeanor to diffuse the situation by playfully tweaking Kreese’s nose.

Six months later, Daniel Larusso visits Mr. Miyagi as he struggles with the emotional fallout from his breakup with Ali Mills. This meeting not only strengthens their bond but also serves as a beginning for Miyagi's introspective journey after hearing of his father's illness.

Miyagi and Daniel travel to Okinawa, initiating a trip steeped in nostalgia and personal reconnection. Along the way, they reflect on Miyagi's past, including a tale about his unreciprocated love for Yukie and the pain of lost opportunities.
