The Hunter

Mercenary Martin David is hired by the military biotech company Red Leaf to find and collect samples of the Tasmanian tiger, rumored to be extinct. With urgent instructions to eliminate any remaining tigers to prevent competition, he prepares for a challenging journey in Tasmania.

Martin arrives in Hobart, Tasmania, starting his mission to locate the elusive Tasmanian tiger. Posing as a university biologist, he settles in with the Armstrong family, as there are no accommodations available.

The Armstrong home is poorly maintained, lacking electricity and clean water. Martin encounters difficulties with the family's living conditions, which include a malfunctioning generator and contaminated water.

Lucy, the mother of the family, is heavily medicated due to the stress of her husband's mysterious disappearance. This medication leaves her in a constant state of drowsiness, complicating Martin's mission.

The local community is suspicious of Martin, associating him with environmentalists due to his arrival after Jarrah's disappearance. They react negatively, given the ongoing conflict between loggers and environmental advocates.

Martin spends extensive time in the bush, setting traps and snares strategically while trying to spot the tiger. His survival skills and hunting background help him navigate the dense landscape.

Upon returning to his vehicle, Martin finds it vandalized, indicating local hostility. He also hears gunshots during his expeditions, suggesting the presence of a rival hunter or locals trying to intimidate him.

Concerned about Lucy's dependency on medication, Martin confiscates it and tends to her while she is unconscious. His actions highlight his growing care for the family amid his mission's urgency.

While bonding with Lucy's child, Jamie, Martin receives a drawing that provides insight into the tiger's potential location. This finding proves crucial for Martin's hunt as he marks it on his map.

During an expedition, Martin discovers the skeletal remains of Jarrah, confirming he was murdered. Although he gives him a proper burial, he chooses not to disclose this information to the Armstrong family.

While checking his traps, Martin is confronted by a rival operative sent by Red Leaf. Instead of leading the operative to the tiger, Martin cleverly guides him into one of his own traps.

After confronting the operative, Martin returns to find the Armstrong home burned down. The loss is compounded by the revelation that Lucy and Katie perished in the fire, leaving Jamie as the sole survivor.

Driven by revenge and sorrow, Martin ventures back into the wilderness to find the Tasmanian tiger. After a lengthy search, he finally encounters the rare creature.

In a moment of conflicting emotions, Martin reluctantly shoots the Tasmanian tiger, recognizing the need to eliminate any trace of its existence to fulfill his mission. He then cremates the body to prevent others from discovering it.

After completing his grim task, Martin returns to town and informs Red Leaf that the tiger is 'gone forever.' He then seeks out Jamie, finding him alone on a bench; they embrace, marking a moment of bittersweet connection amidst tragedy.
