The Good Driver

The Driver pulls a job at a Los Angeles casino with his usual precision. His co-conspirators are late, raising the risk of the operation. He remains a feared figure among criminals, and The Detective is obsessed with capturing him. The Player spots him during the heist, setting up later tension.

The Driver goes to The Player's apartment to pay her for the job. The Detective arrives and threatens The Player, implying he knows her criminal past. This confrontation underscores the Detective's relentless pursuit of The Driver and his influence over others.

The Detective reveals an illegal sting and offers three arrested criminals – Glasses, Teeth, and Fingers’ driver – a deal: hire The Driver for a bank heist and deliver him to the police, and they will walk free. They use The Connection, the Driver's middleman, to locate him. The arrangement shows how far the police are willing to go to capture him.

The Driver initially refuses to work with them, citing his aversion to guns. To prove his skill and test the threats, he systematically wrecks the criminals' car in a display of driving prowess. He then tells the gang he will not work with them on their terms.

Teeth visits The Driver to press him again to join the job and ends up threatening him with a gun. The Driver dares Teeth to shoot, and then defeats him in a confrontation. The moment reinforces The Driver's control and his dislike for being coerced by force.

The Detective taunts The Driver at his rented room and dares him to play a game. Despite knowing it's a setup, The Driver agrees to take part in the job, but only if his fee is doubled and Teeth is kept out of it. This conditional agreement kicks off the planned heist for both sides.

During the heist, Glasses kills Fingers and escapes with The Driver. He refuses to deliver The Detective to the authorities, instead planning to kill him and take the money. The Driver makes it clear he will not be a pawn in their scheme.

After escaping, The Driver surprises Glasses by killing him and stashing the money in a locker at Union Station. The dirty money is then laundered by The Connection, who arranges for the clean money to be retrieved later. The Player is enlisted to retrieve the money once it is clean.

Teeth, realizing Glasses is dead, tightens the pressure on The Connection by interrogating her at gunpoint. She kills The Connection after she reveals The Driver's plans. The move removes a key intermediary from the Driver's tangled network.

The Exchange Man stashes the clean money in a locker at the train station, then boards a train with the dirty money. The Detective tracks him onto the train and kills him in a gunfight as the chase unfolds.

The pursuit leads to a warehouse where The Driver and The Player corner Teeth and his driver The Kid in a tense car chase. The Driver drives straight at Teeth's car, causing a crash that flips the vehicle. He then kills Teeth when he refuses to surrender, ending Teeth's threat.

Back at the station, The Driver retrieves the bag from the locker, only to find it empty—the money has been ripped off by the Exchange Man. The Detective and police arrive to witness the empty bag and the collapse of the scheme. The Player leaves, and The Driver exits with the empty bag, effectively leaving The Detective holding the bag as everyone departs.
