The Full Treatment

Alan Colby, a racing driver, and his wife Denise are involved in a severe car accident a year prior. While both are physically well, Alan begins experiencing mood swings and increasing violence, indicating underlying psychological trauma. Their relationship becomes tense as Alan's mental health deteriorates.

The couple travels to the Côte D'Azur for a vacation seeking relief from their troubled marriage. There, they meet Dr. Prade, a psychiatrist from London. The atmosphere shifts as Denise opens up about her marital issues to Prade, causing tension with Alan.

During their vacation, Alan and Denise have a heated argument, which leads to a fight. However, they manage to reconcile, and their trip ends as they return to London, although underlying issues remain unresolved. Tensions between them are palpable.

Back in London, Alan attempts to strangle Denise, revealing his violent impulses. Horrified by his own actions, he expresses remorse. Denise pleads with him to seek help from Dr. Prade, which he reluctantly agrees to do, marking the start of therapy sessions.

In therapy, Alan confesses detailed fantasies about killing Denise, including strangulation and dismemberment, which deeply disturb him. Dr. Prade pushes Alan to explore his violent thoughts and underlying motives during these sessions.

After many therapy sessions, Dr. Prade concludes that Alan believes he had already killed Denise during the crash and has been mentally reliving that moment. Alan is ecstatic, perceiving himself as cured, but this illusion is fragile and possibly deceptive.

Alan wakes up to find Prade in his apartment and is surprised to learn that Denise is missing. Prade, having left clues resembling Alan's murderous fantasies, deduces that Alan might have killed Denise during his psychotic state, heightening their concerns.

On their way to a clinic while being pursued, Alan and Prade are involved in a car accident. Amidst the chaos, Alan escapes and travels to southern France, where he spots Denise and Prade aboard a yacht. Meanwhile, Prade tries to cover his tracks.

It is revealed that Prade deceived Denise into taking a holiday under the pretense of psychiatric care, while secretly plotting against Alan. Alan, convinced of their conspiracy, confronts Prade armed with a gun, leading to a tense standoff.

Denise uncovers evidence that Prade staged his own cat’s slaughter to mimic a murder scene, exposing his selfish motives and love for Denise. Prade attempts to escape using an old gondola lift, which unfortunately snaps, resulting in his death.

Alan and Denise are finally reunited after their tumultuous ordeal. Despite their reunion, they remain solemn and tense, haunted by the events and the violence that nearly tore them apart. Their relationship is permanently marked by the experience.
