In a desolate parking garage, an enigmatic figure known as The Driver hot-wires a car and speeds away effortlessly. This marks the beginning of a series of high-stakes events driven by adrenaline and criminal intent.

Meanwhile, The Player is at a casino, skillfully managing a hand of poker. After placing her bet, she cashes in her tokens, unaware that chaos is about to unfold just outside.

The situation escalates as two thieves ambush the casino, knocking out the guard. In a frantic escape, they make off in the same stolen car as The Driver, igniting a thrilling car chase.

The Driver finds himself in a high-speed chase, deftly navigating through city streets while evading capture from pursuing police cars. His agility and skill keep him just ahead of the law, showcasing his prowess behind the wheel.

After successfully escaping, The Driver disposes of the stolen vehicle in a junkyard. He carelessly leaves behind his hot-wiring shim, an oversight that soon connects him to the heist.

The next day, Detective, played by Bruce Dern, retrieves the car from the junkyard. He discovers the shim, which builds his case against The Driver, intensifying his pursuit of the elusive criminal.

In a police line-up, witnesses, including The Player, fail to recognize The Driver. Her insistence that he is not the man she saw at the casino momentarily disrupts the Detective's plans but doesn't quell his determination.

Meanwhile, a group of amateur thieves gets caught during a supermarket heist. Detective offers their leader, Glasses, a deal to help set up The Driver, setting in motion a covert plan that tests loyalties.

During a rendezvous, Detective confronts The Player at her apartment, coercing her for information on The Driver. The situation becomes tense as The Driver hides nearby, overhearing the threats against her.

The Driver meets with The Connection, who proposes a job that could ease his financial woes. This meeting sets him on a collision course with treacherous characters, including the menacing Teeth.

When The Driver declines the job offer, tensions rise sharply. The situation escalates to a confrontation where The Driver faces threats at gunpoint but stands his ground in defiance.

During the planned heist, an alarm triggers unexpectedly which leads to a violent encounter. Amid chaos, Glasses shoots a teammate, revealing the lengths some will go to escape the law.

Betrayal unfolds when Glasses holds The Driver at gunpoint, insisting the heist was a setup. In a sudden struggle for survival, The Driver shoots Glasses, narrowly escaping with the cash.

In a climactic showdown at Union Station, The Driver retrieves the cash while being pursued by Teeth, leading to a tense chase filled with peril. This confrontation showcases both skill and survival instincts.

Ultimately, The Driver returns to find the police waiting for him, but reveals an empty suitcase, symbolizing his clever outmaneuvering of the Detective. With a triumphant exit, he walks away free amidst the chaos.
