The Cold Light of Day

Will Shaw, played by Henry Cavill, arrives in Spain from San Francisco for a holiday that he is not particularly looking forward to. His father, Bruce Willis, who works for the government and often travels, picks him up and takes him out to a sailboat where the rest of the family—Will’s mother, his brother Josh, and Josh’s girlfriend—are awaiting him for what was intended to be a relaxing sailing trip. However, the next day, after receiving distressing phone calls informing him of his company’s bankruptcy, Will’s mood darkens. Trying to distract himself, he decides to go fishing, but his focus wavers, leading to an accident where his brother’s girlfriend gets hit by the sail. Concerned, Will swims into town to fetch medicine but returns only to find the boat missing and abandoned.

In a panic, he rushes to a local police station, where the officer in charge looks up his name and makes a suspicious phone call before asking Will to guide him to the boat. There, they meet a man named Zahir, who claims to know the whereabouts of Will’s family. Sensing trouble, Will tries to escape in a police car but crashes, just before his father arrives to rescue him. In a shocking revelation, Martin discloses that he is a CIA agent and their family has been taken by individuals pursuing a briefcase he once possessed. Martin contacts his partner, Sigourney Weaver, who is in Madrid, but during the meeting, a sniper kills him, forcing Will to barely escape an attack.

Left to fend for himself, Will soon learns that he is wanted for a crime he didn’t commit, as the U.S. Embassy shows no interest in helping him find his family. He discreetly retrieves a name from his father’s contacts, Diego, and discovers that he is being manipulated by the kidnappers demanding the briefcase for his family’s safe return. Through a series of confrontations and frantic alliances, Will finds out that Diego had sinister ties with Jean, and his mother is aware of the turmoil around them.

As chaos ensues, Will uncovers the truth of his father’s connections and the corrupt actions behind the kidnapping. He teams up with Lucia, who is revealed to be his half-sister, and they begin to unravel the conspiracies that link them all together. The stakes heighten, culminating in a dangerous confrontation where Will employs cunning tactics to lure out Jean and the corrupt agents involved. A high-octane chase unfolds across Madrid, fraught with close calls, revelations, and a gripping struggle for his family’s fate.

As the dust settles and Lucia recuperates from her injuries, Will finds himself not only drawn into the world of espionage but also forming new familial bonds as he is offered a position within the CIA, suggesting that albeit the chaos, a new chapter is set to begin for him and Lucia.
