A man is chased through the streets of Nice, France, and dies in a violent sequence that pulls a tangled thread of identities to the surface. Officer Jean-Claude Van Damme as Alain Moreau is pulled into the case by his partner, Jean-Hugues Anglade who plays Sebastien, because the victim’s face bears a shocking resemblance to Alain. Clues tucked in the victim’s pockets point toward a hotel, where the proprietor mistakes Alain for Jean-Claude Van Damme in the guise of Mikhail Suverov and hands him a terse phone message: “Call Alex Bohemia.” In Mikhail’s room, a passport bearing the same birth date as Alain and a plane ticket to New York lie in wait, suggesting a deliberate and dangerous confusion of fates.

Alain’s mother later drops a heavy truth that shakes the ground beneath him: he has a twin brother who was given up at birth because she could not afford to raise two children. Driven by questions of identity and duty, Alain and Sebastien track the trail to the office of the lawyer who adopted Mikhail. When they reach the scene of a blazing room, a Russian intruder attacks Alain, and he escapes with the adoption file. The document reveals that Mikhail was adopted by a Russian family who later immigrated to the United States. With the passport and the NY-bound plane ticket in hand, Alain heads for New York to investigate the mysterious death that ties him to a brother he never knew existed.

In New York, Alain uncovers that Mikhail belonged to the Russian mafia, and a reference to Alex Bohemia leads him to the Bohemia Club in Little Odessa. There, a woman named Alex Minetti mistakes him for the elusive Mikhail and unlocks a crucial lead by handing him a key to a hotel room. He rents a room across the hall, keeping a wary eye on the surroundings as the investigation deepens. Alex Minetti reveals that Mikhail had been her boyfriend and that he had been planning to walk away from the Mafia, a revelation that adds a personal stake to the dangerous game unfolding around them.

The plot thickens as Alain discovers that Mikhail had begun to piece together something more than personal exit plans: a hidden life that involved the mafia and those who might shield or betray it. When two Russians confront him at Mikhail’s home, Alain and Alex escape and flee to a friend’s cabin, seeking safety as the net tightens. The next morning, two FBI agents arrive with a chilling proposition: they want Alain to pose as Mikhail to access a safe deposit box back in Nice. In truth, they intend to seize the evidence that could indict them for colluding with the Mafia. Real danger surfaces when Alain realizes the FBI is not merely assisting a ratting out of criminals, but actively entangled in a cover-up that threatens him at every turn.

A tense standoff ensues as Alain refuses to cooperate with the agency he suspects of murder. After a brutal confrontation, he handcuffs the agents and drags Alex toward a confrontation with Kirov, the Mafia’s ruthless leader. At a banya, Kirov confronts Alain with the real stakes: the so‑called evidence is not just a one-time prize but a weapon that could topple both the mob and implicated government officials. Ivan’s big Russian enforcer is sent to finish Kirov and Alain, and in the ensuing fight Kirov dies. Though Alain escapes, he is arrested by the NYPD, only to be immediately thrust back into danger as the two corrupt FBI agents seize Alex to force his cooperation for a second time.

Bank policy forces a dramatic twist: only Mikhail can access the safe deposit box, so the agents wait outside while Alain, posing as Mikhail, makes the deposit. The box holds not only the incriminating evidence but also a separate box in Alain’s name—filled with thousands in cash, a gun, and a tape recording in which Mikhail explains his decision to escape the Mafia and reunite with his family. Alain orders the banker to hand the evidence to the US Embassy and triggers the sprinkler system to cover his escape. Ivan, waiting with Sebastien as his hostage, unleashes a large Russian thug who kills the banker and seizes the evidence, but Alain closes the gap and ends the threat in the elevator.

Outside, the street becomes a battlefield as police block Ivan’s escape route. Alain closes the distance, punctures the thug’s tires with precision shots, and rescues Sebastien; Ivan dies in the wreckage. The pursuit pushes into a meat locker where Alain confronts the two remaining FBI agents, shoots them both, and rescues Alex. The cascade of arrests follows as Mikhail’s evidence reveals the extent of Mafia collusion with the FBI, leading to multiple reckoning actions. In the final act, Alain takes Alex to meet his mother, where she can hear the truth about Mikhail and his hoped-for reunion, closing a circle that began with a mistaken identity and grew into a longer, more complex fight for family and justice.
