The Canterville Ghost

The Canterville family arrives at Canterville Castle in England. Harry declares he will stay at least three months to secure full possession before selling the castle to a developer. Lucy and Jennifer exchange uneasy glances as they sense the village's rumors and the castle's eerie atmosphere.

Harry and Lucy refuse to believe there is a real ghost, thinking any sightings could be wired tricks. The eccentric Umneys forecast gloom and warn about the estate. The family remains skeptical until more uncanny signs start to appear.

Sir Simon reappears during a dinner to scare off guests, making the supernatural presence undeniable to the family and their visitors. The haunting shifts from rumor to a living, tangible menace in their daily life.

Jennifer learns from Paul Blaine, one of her classmates, about a rumor that Sir Simon killed his wife Eleanor. The rumor propels her to investigate the truth behind the ghostly legend.

They go to the graveyard and discover that Sir Simon's tombstone has no date of death, deepening the mystery of his fate. The lack of a final resting date makes the legend feel unfinished and more haunting.

Sir Simon confronts Jennifer, explaining that he is doomed to remain on the estate after his wife died, and that Eleanor cursed him for their daughter's death. The curse binds him to the castle until a remedy is found.

Jennifer learns that Eleanor's death was not murder but an accident—as she fell down the stairs while trying to strike Sir Simon. This revelation reframes the ghost's past and the surrounding rumors.
