The mood turns decisively sour as Cyrus’s reading reveals his deep-seated enmity toward his kin. He frames the will as a game: the fortune will go to Annabelle if she spends the night in the house and is deemed sane by morning. If she fails, a second reel will name a secondary heir. The plan is chilling, and the tension thickens when Dr. Hendricks Edward Fox, a psychiatrist from a nearby sanitarium, arrives with a grim warning: a deranged, disfigured patient who believes himself to be a cat has escaped. The news unsettles everyone, yet Allison urges keeping it from Annabelle, while Susan insists on honesty. Still, Annabelle’s reaction seems calm, almost unfazed by the ominous telegraphs of danger surrounding the night.

As secrets begin to surface, suspicions harden. Paul confides in Annabelle about secret passageways beneath the mansion, suggesting that Allison and Mrs. Pleasant might be concealing something. In a tense moment, Annabelle is startled when Allison vanishes behind a hidden bookcase in the library, prompting a chorus of whispers and worry among the relatives. On the staircase, the killer confronts her and wrests the weapon, dragging her into a basement chamber. A brutal struggle ensues, and when Annabelle tears away the killer’s rubber mask, the culprit is revealed: Charlie Wilder, the second heir Cyrus engineered to secure the fortune after Annabelle’s supposed insanity.

Dr. Hendricks materializes in the basement as a sinister ally of Charlie, and Annabelle seeks refuge with him, only to discover his duplicity. The two hatch a cruel plan to trap Annabelle, chaining her to a medical chair as Charlie ascends to finish the work he began. A fight erupts as Paul and a resilient Mrs. Pleasant race to intervene. Mrs. Pleasant fires, killing Charlie, while Paul and Mrs. Pleasant descend to save Annabelle, only to confront Hendricks, who is intent on mutilating the young designer. Paul shoots Hendricks dead just in time, ending the immediate threat.

With dawn breaking, an ambulance pulls away the bodies, and Harry Blythe and Cicily depart the mansion, leaving Annabelle and Paul to confront the aftermath. The house quiets as tea bubbles on the stove, and Mrs. Pleasant prepares a final pot for the pair. They return to the study to replay Cyrus’s second reel, the film that names Charlie Wilder as the second heir, sealing the grim arc of the night’s revelations. The mansion settles into a hushed, eerie calm as the sun rises, and the fragile bonds among the survivors begin the slow process of healing after a night that tested memory, loyalty, and the true meaning of inheritance.
