The Brave Archer

In a restless era where imperial soldiers have extinguished a fledgling rebellion, two infant sons are left adrift—Guo Jing and Yang Kang. Their fathers, once rebels, fall in the dead of night, and the boys’ futures seem sealed by the very sword that ended their families. Yet a wandering band of legendary fighters, known as the Seven Freaks of Jiangnan, stumble upon the helpless children and decide that destiny will not be decided by blood alone. Their rescue sets the stage for a tale that balances the harshness of a war‑torn landscape with the quiet hope of mentorship.

Guo Jing is taken into the fold of the Seven Freaks, where a patient, almost whimsical discipline molds his raw talent. The training grounds are rustic yet vibrant, echoing with the clatter of wooden weapons and the soft laughter of masters who, despite their eccentricities, demand humility and perseverance. Within this close‑knit circle, the orphan learns to channel his grief into steady resolve, his character shaped as much by the rugged terrain as by the steadfast guidance of his unconventional tutors.

In stark contrast, Yang Kang is carried far from those humble hills into the opulent chambers of a Jurchen prince who adopts him as a foster son. Surrounded by wealth, courtly intrigue and the glitter of power, his upbringing is laced with luxury and expectation.
