The Attic Expeditions

Trevor and Faith purchase a house together and envision a stable future. They settle into the new home and begin laying plans for their life as a couple. The purchase marks a hopeful start to a chapter filled with shared ambitions and ordinary domestic moments.

Trevor cleans the attic and uncovers a chest with a hidden staircase. Inside sits a book of black magic that only Trevor can read, pulling him toward a power he barely understands. He feels an unsettling lure toward the book, sensing it could change everything.

Trevor studies the book and begins performing rituals in secret. Faith joins him, and the couple pushes their experiments further, chasing greater control and insight. The magical work blurs the line between curiosity and dangerous ambition.

They attempt a ritual to merge their two consciousnesses, hoping to become more than themselves. The spell misfires catastrophically, and Faith dies violently, tearing apart the couple's future. Trevor is left shaken and frightened, and he ends up calling the police as the room stabilizes into silence.

Four years pass, and Trevor is found insane and admitted to a sanitarium under the care of Dr. Ek. Ek reveals an interest in the book and its potential uses, hinting at cures for mental illness. Dr. Coffee arrives to study under Ek, expanding the circle around Trevor.

Ek probes Trevor, hoping to rekindle memories of the book and its location. He is wary that revealing the book's value could put Trevor at risk. Dr. Coffee joins the project, adding a new dynamic to the search for the book and its secrets.

Trevor is told he is being sent to a recovery facility, but The House of Love is revealed as his former home filled with actors posing as patients. He interacts with the other 'patients' and quickly befriends Douglas, who seems oblivious to the ruse. Douglas engineers Trevor's exploration, hoping he will reveal the book's hidden location. Ronald pretends to confess secrets to spur Trevor into action.

Trevor develops an interest in Amy, and their affair is intensified by her seduction. The first 'murder' is staged to heighten tension and push Trevor further into the house's mysteries. As the plan unfolds, several more fake murders are orchestrated to maintain urgency and keep Trevor exploring.

Ek intensifies Trevor's treatment with medications and procedures. In his drugged state, Trevor begins to see Faith again, who appears to be searching for the book as well. Faith uses their renewed connection to pressure Trevor to surrender the book.

The elaborate illusion around the murders falters as the house becomes aware of the ruse. Dr. Coffee and Dr. Ek clash over the ethics of Ek's methods, and Ek drugs Coffee in a moment of rage. Ultimately Ek concedes the experiment has failed and prepares to leave the sanitarium.

Believing Faith is possessing Amy, Trevor acts in a moment of fear and ends up killing Amy. The act shatters the fragile grip on reality within the House of Love. This murder marks a turning point, accelerating the collapse of Trevor's sanity and the house's control.

Douglas, actually possessed by Faith, kills the orderlies and pursues Trevor through the house. They race toward the attic, with Trevor reaching it first and Douglas close on his heels. Trevor knocks Douglas down and presses toward the attic's chest, the source of the house's power looming ahead.

Trevor confronts the looming chest as another version of his consciousness seems to knock from within. He fights to escape the attic while the other self presses to merge with him through the chest. In the final moment, Trevor pulls himself into the chest, leaving Faith, the book, and his fate unresolved.
