Tenchi the Movie 2: The Daughter of Darkness

Yuzuha created Mayuka because she was a demon girl who had been scorned by Prince Yosho 700 years earlier. After awakening in the underworld and learning that Yosho's descendant Tenchi was on Earth surrounded by women, she decided to amuse herself by creating a hybrid child, part human, part Juraian, and part demon, using a lock of Tenchi's hair and a piece of herself. It was essentially a mischievous act of revenge and entertainment.

Yuzuha's resentment towards Yosho began when palace guards drove her away during their childhood encounter, planting the seeds for her later manipulation.

Mayuka is Tenchi's biological daughter because Yuzuha used a lock of Tenchi's hair, which contains his Juraian DNA, along with her own essence to create her. This makes her half human (through Tenchi), half Juraian (also through Tenchi's royal lineage), and half demon (through Yuzuha). Washu's DNA test confirmed that Mayuka shares half her DNA with Tenchi, proving the biological connection.

Tenchi was explicitly warned that he could not use his Juraian powers while in Yuzuha's underworld realm. This restriction gave Yuzuha a significant advantage during the rescue mission, as her own demonic powers remained fully functional in her domain while Tenchi was rendered nearly powerless.

The warning about his powers foreshadows the difficult battle that follows, where Tenchi must rely on other means to succeed.

Yuzuha kidnapped Sasami to use her as leverage and force Tenchi and Ryoko to come to the underworld. She also erased Mayuka's memories to fully control her and prevent her from resisting or betraying her. This desperate move was meant to draw the heroes into her realm where she had the advantage.

Mayuka broke free from Yuzuha's control after hearing Sasami's heartfelt words, that everyone truly cares for her. This genuine expression of love and acceptance touched Mayuka's heart, causing her to turn against Yuzuha and attack her former manipulator, choosing loyalty to her newfound family over the programming from her creator.

Throughout the story, hints of Mayuka's genuine desire for family connection appeared whenever she was briefly free from Yuzuha's influence.

Yuzuha transformed into a giant dark creature in a fit of grief and rage after Mayuka betrayed her. The combination of losing control over her creation and the emotional pain of rejection by the child she created caused Yuzuha to snap, leading to her monstrous transformation as she killed Mayuka for defiance.

Ayeka arrived with a branch from the Tree of Light, which enabled Tenchi to harness his Juraian powers even within the underworld. With this restored strength, Tenchi was able to defeat Yuzuha and rescue everyone. The Tree of Light is a powerful Juraian artifact that amplifies royal Juraian abilities.

The earlier warning about Tenchi's powers being restricted set up the dramatic moment when Ayeka's arrival completely changed the battle's outcome.

Mayuka was resurrected using her remains, a red crystal, by Washu, but she returned as an infant. This appears to be a consequence of the resurrection process itself, which restored her life but reset her physical form. By the next Christmas, she had returned as a baby to be raised by the Masaki family, symbolizing a fresh start and the hope of building proper family bonds from the beginning.

Ryoko felt immediately threatened by Mayuka's claim to be Tenchi's daughter because she feared losing her own place in Tenchi's life. She responded by threatening Mayuka with an energy sword and denying her paternity. However, after Mayuka's sacrifice and redemption, Ryoko eventually accepted her and agreed to help train her, showing character growth.

Yuzuha became obsessed with Tenchi because she believed he was Yosho, her childhood love from 700 years ago, just living a different life on Earth. She was convinced Tenchi was her destined partner and sent Mayuka to him hoping to reconnect and cause some mischief, driven by unresolved feelings of heartbreak and resentment from being rejected by Yosho.

After Yuzuha killed Mayuka in her monster form, Mayuka's remains turned into a red crystal. This crystal was collected by Tenchi and brought back to Earth, where Washu used it to successfully resurrect Mayuka. The crystal served as the physical anchor for her resurrection, making her return possible.

After being resurrected, Mayuka requested to be trained by Ryoko because she wanted to prove herself worthy of being part of the Masaki family and earn their acceptance. She recognized Ryoko's strength and wanted to become stronger both physically and emotionally, showing her desire to start fresh and build genuine bonds.
