Annie Hargrove, portrayed by Cameron Diaz, is a thirty-something blogger who begins her latest post by reflecting on a universal question: Do you recall the first time your partner saw you completely bare? Through a nostalgic lens, she reminisces about the wild and passionate days shared with her boyfriend, Jay, played by Jason Segel. Their early relationship was filled with spontaneous intimacy—unconcerned about who was watching or where they were. Eventually, they settled down, got married, and expanded their family with two children, Clive and Nell. However, as the years progressed, the spark in their love life faded, leaving Annie wondering how they could reignite the passion they once had.

Now, in their daily lives, Annie and Jay find themselves navigating the challenges of parenthood amidst hectic schedules and demanding children, particularly their unruly son Clive, brought to life by Sebastian Hedges Thomas, and their adorable daughter Nell, played by Giselle Eisenberg. Even their kids can sense the boredom creeping into their parents’ relationship. After dropping Clive and Nell off at school, Jay heads to work at a radio station, where he confides in his friend Max, portrayed by Nat Faxon, about the awkwardness of sending his wife, Annie, photos of his private parts.

Meanwhile, Annie is meeting with Hank Rosenbaum, played by Rob Lowe, at the Piper Brother company, which is interested in purchasing her blog despite some of its more explicit content. Hank is eager to work with Annie, unveiling a potential new chapter in her career.

In an effort to spice things up, Annie calls her mother, Linda, played by Nancy Lenehan, to babysit Clive and Nell, allowing her and Jay some alone time. Annie surprises Jay by donning a sheer shirt and pink panties while roller skating through their home. Although initially aroused, their attempts at rekindling their romance become clumsy and ineffective. They try to get into the mood in various locations – the kitchen, the sofa – yet nothing seems to work. After pouring themselves some tequila, an idea strikes Annie when she discovers one of Jay’s iPads. They decide to film their own adult video, pulling inspiration from the book “The Joy of Sex”.

As the sun rises the next day, the couple hosts a graduation party for Clive, inviting friends including Robby and Tess, portrayed by Rob Corddry and Ellie Kemper, along with Punit and Kia, played by Kumail Nanjiani and Artemis Asteriadis. The celebration takes a turn when Jay receives a cryptic text: “Enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing. Xoxo.” The realization hits that the homemade video synced across all of Jay’s devices, including the iPads he had given to their friends and family. Panic ensues – they desperately scramble to retrieve the devices to prevent anyone from seeing their intimate moment.

The chaotic dash leads them to confront various friends and relatives, with hilarious situations unfolding as they attempt damage control. On a visit to Hank’s opulent house under the guise of a charity collection, Annie and Jay are pulled into a bizarre encounter involving Hank’s eccentric art and his eager invitation for illicit substances. Meanwhile, Jay has his own misadventures with Hank’s aggressive dog, creating a comedic yet precarious situation.

Ultimately, Annie and Jay confront their relationship issues, finding common ground in the chaos. They make strides toward rebuilding the intimacy they crave. However, just as they begin to reclaim their bond, they walk in on Robby and Tess engaging in their own private activities, leading to a blend of humor and embarrassment.

The journey takes yet another twist when they learn that their son, Howard, has also been involved in the debacle, blackmailing Jay with slices of information that could expose his father to more ridicule. Determined to erase all traces of the tape, they embark on a wild adventure to the YouPorn headquarters, leading to an unexpected encounter with the manager, played by Jack Black, who surprisingly empathizes with their plight.

As the family regroups for Clive’s graduation, Annie and Jay share heartfelt affirmations of love, only to face a moment of panic as they fear remnants of the tape still exist. However, after viewing it one last time, blended with laughter and horror at their past escapades, they commit to burying the evidence and focusing on what truly matters: their family and the rekindled passion in their love life.
