Jenn discovers blood on Lucas' pocketknife after they gather supplies to escape the island, which raises her suspicion about his involvement in the deaths. While the film never explicitly confirms what the blood relates to, it planted doubt about whether Lucas may have harmed Zach (whose body washed ashore with knife wounds) or had some other dark secret. The ambiguity adds to the tension between them.

Zach's body washes ashore with strange knife wounds, which creates confusion about whether the creature killed him or if someone else did. Jenn attempts to use his body as bait to lure the creature, but the beast remains elusive. The knife wounds on Zach's body later contribute to Jenn's suspicion about Lucas when she finds blood on his pocketknife.

After Lucas and Mia arrive on the island in a raft, Jenn tries to escape alone because she feels her warnings about the creature are being ignored. Mia stops her from leaving by knocking her out, and Lucas ties her to a tree. This appears to be a protective measure to keep Jenn from harming herself or running off, though it also isolates Jenn further from her friends.

Jenn survives through a series of survival attempts: hiding in a hollow log, building a raised hammock, and eventually crafting makeshift weapons from kindling and spears. Each night the creature attacks, and each time Jenn hides until dawn when it retreats. She ultimately prepares for a final showdown by arming herself and confronting the monster directly.
