Sultan: The Saviour

The film opens with an intense operation by squad soldiers to round up Ronnie, the ruthless head of a criminal syndicate. His two younger brothers, Lama and Ujan, help run the empire from the shadows. The brothers had previously forced many soldiers to surrender by taking their families hostage, turning loyalty into fear. As the raid unfolds, the syndicate leader is killed, and the rival warning that a good man will come to take Ronnie down hangs in the air, while Ronnie counters that only someone as ruthless as him could stand a chance.

Across the city, Raja Dutta arrives in Kolkata with his sister Disha. [Raja Dutta] is a gentle, kind-hearted man whose warmth immediately starts to soften a local hooligan named Kolkata Kaali, who becomes an ally in helping them settle into a new neighborhood. Raja soon lands a job as a driver at a Thustaxi company, where fate puts him in close contact with a sharp-witted lawyer, Alia. A clash of worlds ensues when Raja’s actions inadvertently jeopardize Alia’s employment, setting off a chain of events that pulls Alia into a fragile partnership with Raja’s boss, Raja’s Boss. What begins as revenge shifts into uneasy trust, and Alia’s bond with Raja deepens as she also discovers her brother’s growing ties to Disha.

One day, the city’s taxi and auto drivers are summoned by the police commissioner to report on the syndicate’s activities. When Raja glimpses suspicious movements, he reports a case of arms and drugs smuggling, a move that draws Ujan into a confrontation—Ujan captures him briefly, but Raja manages to break free and retaliates with brutal force, killing Ujan and his men. The deadly confrontation draws the attention of Lama, who travels to Kolkata to investigate the murder and stacks up digital clues against Raja, tracing his mobile signal to a hidden tower. In a brutal turn, Raja kills Lama and the entirety of Lama’s attack squad, signaling the depth of his resolve and the cost of this violent pursuit.

Alia follows the brutal trail and is horrified by Raja’s actions. She wrestles with the possibility of stopping the marriage between her sister Disha and Raja, but Raja drops a bombshell: Disha is not actually his sister, a revelation that unsettles the fragile balance of loyalties around them. The story then peels back to a darker backstory: a year earlier, Raja, known then as Sultan, was a terrifying criminal-mercenary who was arrested but freed in return for saving the police from a rival gang. Raja’s path crosses a brutal era in which he is stabbed by enemies over business losses, only to be saved by Disha, who lies to the authorities by presenting Sultan as her brother to get him through.

Disha and her blind father, Disha’s Blind Father, are threatened again by developers who want to push them out for a residential complex. They hire Raja for protection, but he initially accepts money and falters in loyalty. The family departs when Disha’s parents accept a different arrangement, yet the syndicate finds them and Disha’s parents are killed, leaving Disha gravely injured. Raja steps forward for the first time with real empathy, rescuing her and pledging to care for her as her brother while vowing to dismantle the crime syndicate and avenge her parents.

Alia agrees to support Disha’s marriage arrangements, hoping to keep peace, but Ronnie returns to India, determined to unearth the killer of his brother. He uses an injured victim of Raja’s assault to track down the murderer and, by chance, hires Disha to sketch a forensic portrait of the killer. Ronnie instructs Disha to call her “brother,” pulling Raja back into the danger zone. Raja answers the call with a calculated plan, taking one of Ronnie’s aides’ sons hostage to secure Disha’s freedom. Ronnie himself abducts Disha, and Raja races to respond. In a climactic pursuit, Raja reveals only a measured, controlled violence, kills Ronnie, and rescues Disha, finally fulfilling the vow he made long before. The tale closes on a note of hard-won justice, tempered by the price of vengeance and the uneasy peace that remains.
