Stargate: The Ark of Truth Timeline Explained: Your Questions Answered

When does it happen, and why in that order? The questions people ask about the chronology of Stargate: The Ark of Truth (2008): time jumps, flashbacks, cause and effect between scenes and the correct order of events, each answered with spoilers.

Q1

Why did Tomin refuse the Prior's order to kill SG-1?

Tomin refused because the Anti-Prior device had blocked the Prior's powers, making the order seem less divinely mandated. Additionally, Tomin had already begun questioning the Ori's teachings after witnessing SG-1's sincerity and the fake Ark revelation. His growing doubt about Origin's validity overrides his loyalty to the Prior's command.

Q2

What was Marrick's real plan with the Replicator?

Marrick used the Asgard computer core to create a Replicator and intended to plant it on an Ori ship so it would spread through their fleet and destroy them. The IOA had deliberately removed the weapon's built-in shutdown weakness from the design, making the Replicator uncontrollable. Marrick claimed not to know the actual shutdown code, which was located on the crystal that created the Replicators.

Q3

How did Morgan le Fay save Teal'c on Celestis?

After Teal'c was wounded and collapsed within sight of the city during the team capture, Morgan le Fay revived him. She appeared in the guise of Merlin and helped him recover enough to continue toward Daniel. Morgan then provided the crucial strategy: exposing a single Prior to the Ark could weaken Adria's grip enough for her to be opposed.

Q4

Why did the Ark of Truth weaken the Ori?

The Ark of Truth reveals the fundamental truth that the Ori are not gods. When the Doci was exposed to the Ark's beam, this revelation was broadcast through the linked Priors across the Ori galaxy, destroying their divine legitimacy. Since the Ori's power derived from belief in their godhood, the truth stripped them of their authority and weakened their control over followers.

  • doci
  • belief

Q5

How did SG-1 turn the Priors in the Milky Way?

SG-1 exposed a Prior on Earth to the Ark of Truth, transmitting the knowledge that the Ori are not gods. This revelation spread to Priors across the Milky Way through their networked belief system, causing many to doubt and abandon their crusade. The truth traveled faster than the Ori could suppress it.

Q6

What happened to Marrick after he became a Replicator hybrid?

The Replicators infiltrated the brig and converted Marrick into a Human/Replicator hybrid, giving them control over his body. He was placed in isolation aboard the Odyssey. Mitchell eventually severed the Replicator link to Marrick's brain long enough to learn the shutdown code location, then killed Marrick with an explosive to prevent further spread.

Foreshadowing: Marrick's fate was foreshadowed by his earlier hint that the IOA removed the Replicator's weakness, creating an uncontrollable weapon.

Q7

Why was the Ark found on Dakara a fake?

The box SG-1 discovered on Dakara was a deliberate decoy placed by the Ori. When Daniel tricked the Ori soldiers into opening it, the box revealed a fake Ark inside. This was likely part of the Ori's plan to misdirect the Tau'ri and protect the real Ark's location in their own galaxy.

Q8

What was the connection between the Sangraal and Adria's ascension?

During the events of The Shroud, the Sangraal killed the Ori, and Adria subsequently ascended, seizing control of their accumulated power. Vala discovered this chilling truth while captured in the Ori city, that the Ori themselves had been slain, allowing Adria to take their place as the supreme leader of the Origin faith.

Q9

Why did Vala choose to stay at the SGC instead of going with Tomin?

Vala decided to remain with the SGC despite Tomin leaving for the Ori galaxy as the new leader of his people. She told Tomin that while the Ori were liars, Origin still carried a message worth exploring, which aligned with her own journey of seeking purpose. Her choice reflected personal growth and a commitment to continuing her work with SG-1, though Daniel objected to her staying.

Q10

What was the purpose of the Supergate in the mission?

The Supergate was a massive Stargate capable of creating a stable wormhole across galaxies. SG-1 used it to travel from the Milky Way to the Ori galaxy aboard the Odyssey, allowing them to pursue the Ark directly into enemy territory. It was the only known route to reach the Ori's home galaxy.

  • odyssey
  • ori galaxy

Q11

Why did Mitchell kill the Prior on Dakara?

When the Prior ordered Tomin to kill SG-1, Tomin refused. With the Prior's powers blocked by the Anti-Prior device and his authority questioned, Mitchell made the brutal choice to kill the Prior rather than risk the team being slaughtered. The Prior's death shocked the Ori soldiers into surrendering.

Q12

How was exposing one Prior to the Ark supposed to weaken Adria?

Morgan le Fay explained that the Priors were linked through their staffs. By exposing a single Prior to the Ark's truth, the revelation would spread through the network to all connected Priors. This would weaken Adria specifically because her power derived from the same belief system, once the Priors doubted, her grip on theOri's former followers would be diminished enough for her to be challenged directly.
