Springtime in the Rockies

Vicky Lane awaits her partner Dan Christy at the end of a long Broadway week. She grows certain he will propose, even imagining an engagement ring, but she discovers he has been out with Marilyn Crothers instead. Infuriated by his behavior, she quits the show.

Feeling betrayed, Vicky leaves the production and returns to her former dancing partner and beau, Victor Prince, who is still in love with her. The breakup unsettles both of them, though Victor hopes for reconciliation.

Three months pass as Dan sinks into a depression and cannot find a backer for his new show. The Commissioner reveals that financiers Bickel and Brown will back the venture, but only if Dan can get Vicky to return. He orders Dan to romance Vicky and not reveal the backers’ existence until she arrives in New York, and arranges for the bartender McTavish to send Dan on the next plane to Lake Louise.

Dan awakens at the Lake Louise resort in the Canadian Rockies and discovers he has hired McTavish as his valet and Rosita Murphy as his secretary. McTavish is an eccentric whose wealthy aunt bankrolled him to several college degrees. Dan learns the Lake Louise trip is part of a larger plan to win Vicky back.

Dan meets Vicky, who proudly displays an engagement ring from Victor. Dan's resolve to win her back grows, and he begins to cast a plan that uses jealousy by romancing Rosita.

To turn Vicky against her fiancé, Dan starts romancing Rosita, a ploy that seems to work as she attracts Victor Prince. Rosita, however, finds herself pursued by Victor, while Phoebe Gray becomes intrigued by McTavish. The group spends time pursuing, arguing, and complicating loyalties.

One evening, Dan barges into Vicky’s room and refuses to leave, prompting Victor to discover him hiding. Victor accuses Vicky of unfaithfulness, and she breaks off her engagement. The incident strains the trio further.

Later that evening, Dan and Vicky reconcile and Dan proposes marriage, vowing honesty about the new show. He tries to tell her about the show, but she heads off to plan their departure. He suggests a honeymoon in New York to seal the reunion.

In the morning as Vicky checks out, the Commissioner and the financiers Bickel and Brown arrive and reveal the backers’ plan behind the show. The news unsettles Vicky, who now sees through Dan’s schemes.

Thinking Dan is using her again, Vicky runs off in tears. Quick-thinking Rosita covers for Dan, convincing Vicky that his plan was to take her to California for their honeymoon rather than to reveal a cynical scheme. The deception buys Dan time but tightens the web of lies.

With Bickel and Brown out as backers, Rosita must persuade McTavish to invest some of his inheritance in the show. The pivot secures a new source of funding, keeping the romance and production on track.

The new show finally opens with Vicky and Dan as the star performers, backed by Harry James and His Music Makers, Rosita, Victor, McTavish, and Phoebe. The ensemble supports the couple as the Lake Louise chapter closes and the Broadway dream resumes on a fresh footing.
