Soldiers of Fortune

McCenzie and Reed lead a covert mission to locate Osama bin Laden in an unnamed Middle East location. CIA operative Carter Mason inserts herself into the operation and Reed's cover is quickly blown when he is captured by locals. McCenzie arrives just in time to free Reed, preventing the locals from forcing a confession.

Reed's exposure to the locals causes friction with Mason, but McCenzie's intervention secures his release. The collaboration fractures under the strain of the failed mission. The episode ends with Reed and McCenzie choosing to press on apart from Mason.

Four years pass and both McCenzie and Reed are dishonorably discharged due to Mason's influence. They settle into running a struggling private security firm back in the USA. The professional rift with Mason remains unresolved.

At a biker gang run poker tournament, McCenzie witnesses other players draw guns on the dealer. It is revealed the game is a test to assess his combat proficiency and nerve. The scene underscores his lingering battlefield instincts.

McCenzie is offered a well paid job to help a group of freedom fighters on a dictator controlled European island. He initially declines until it is revealed that Mason operates on the island as the dictator's military head. The prospect shifts his stance and he agrees to go.

Upon reaching a base camp near the island, the true nature of the operation is explained. A war tourism venture invites wealthy mercenaries to join for thrills, while McCenzie and Reed are hired as guides and bodyguards to keep the guests safe.

The five wealthy tourists are introduced as recruits: each seeks the bravado of professional soldiers. McCenzie and Reed impart basic weaponry and tactics, but the recruits prove largely inept. The session establishes the dynamic between the travelers and their guardians.

The tourists embark on their first mission and immediately come under fire. Reed and his escort unit are killed, leaving McCenzie furious and accusing Tourneur of arranging the ambush. The disaster tests the travelers' resolve.

Tourneur explains that he sold arms to the dictator and now seeks revenge. The group retreats to the rebels base, where they begin to understand the real reasons behind the conflict and their own motives.

A morning assault further tests the group, and the tourists manage to reach safety. Vanderbeer appears dead after the clash, an apparent result of the heavy fighting that surrounds them.

St. John discloses that he is a native mineral trader returning to arrange supply of coltan. His knowledge of the terrain leads them to a mine complex and a helipad, exposing his true purpose.

The group is captured and Vanderbeer is unmasked as the traitor who informed Mason of the rebels location. He had negotiated a deal with the dictator to sell out the rebels for money.

McCenzie and Cecilia orchestrate a rescue, and with the group freed they arm themselves and split up again. The survivors prepare to strike at different targets while continuing the fight.

Haussmann stays behind to hold off the dictator's private army, sacrificing his life to protect the others and to spare his wife a claim on his assets. His act reframes the purpose of their mission for the remaining survivors.

In a rapid finale, Sin kills Vanderbeer, McCenzie defeats Mason, Cecilia eliminates the dictator's daughter, and Tourneur knocks out the dictator with a bazooka. St. John saves Cecilia from wreckage, and the survivors toast Haussmann's sacrifice as the island party resumes.
