Snowed Inn Christmas

Jenna Hudson and Kevin Jenner are two writers at a New York magazine who are tasked with crafting a feature about a resort in Aspen, Colorado. The contest is simple and high-stakes: the writer whose article earns the most online clicks earns a promotion. Despite their bluntly different temperaments—she’s precise and driven, he’s witty and skeptical—the two are forced to travel together, navigating their clashing views as they chase the same ambitious story.

A heavy snowstorm reroutes their flight, forcing them to divert to the quirky town of Santa Claus, Indiana. With no way back to Aspen and nowhere to stay, they are taken in by a local couple, Christopher Winters and Carol Winters, who run the Winters Inn, a small, old-fashioned bed-and-breakfast that exudes holiday charm. The Winters claim the inn’s historic status despite not having a deed to prove it, leaving the writers both intrigued and skeptical. The surprise stop becomes the new setting for their project, as they decide to document the inn and the peculiar world it inhabits, turning their misadventure into a possible career-making story.

As they settle in, the pair starts to thaw and grow closer. They sneak peeks into the town’s rhythms and even into Kevin’s own family life, a short drive away, which helps them rediscover shared ground and start to see each other in a new light. While Jenna digs into the inn’s past, she uncovers a deed that supposedly proves the building’s historical significance—but the document is missing. In her search, she comes across an old photo that makes her wonder if Chris Winters might actually be Santa Claus, adding a magical twist to their investigation and feeding into the town’s Christmas folklore.

On Christmas Eve, Kevin is ready to confess his feelings to Jenna, but the situation takes a sharp turn when Jenna’s ex-boyfriend, Andrew, arrives and whisks her away to a hotel so they can depart the next morning. The interruption leaves Jenna unable to finish the article, and the impending departure strains the collaboration they had begun to build. Yet in a hopeful turn, the next morning at the airport, Kevin reveals that he has found the missing deed and has written a joint article in both their names, preserving the progress they had started and sealing their professional bond as a personal triumph.

With the path clear for a Christmas reunion, Jenna realizes that Andrew isn’t the right person for her, and she chooses to return to Kevin’s family home for the holiday. There, the two finally acknowledge their love for each other, choosing a future together over the old complications of the past.

The film’s edited version ends with Jenna rejoining Kevin at his family home, continuing the evolving relationship and shared career. The director’s cut pushes the story forward one year, showing a wedding at the Winters Inn—with Chris Winters presiding—where Jenna and Kevin celebrate their union, cementing the vow that began in a small town during a snowy holiday season.
