Baker Dill leads a peaceful life on the island of Plymouth, spending his days fishing aboard his boat, Serenity. He enjoys the company of his friend Duke and has a romantic relationship with a local woman named Constance.

Amidst his tranquil existence, Baker begins experiencing strange and unexplainable visions. His obsession with capturing a giant tuna, which he has named 'the beast,' leads to repeated disappointments on his fishing trips.

Baker's quiet life is disrupted when his ex-wife Karen unexpectedly returns to the island. She reveals the traumatic reality of her life, including the abuse she suffers at the hands of her new husband, Frank.

Karen entices Baker with a sinister proposition: she asks him to murder Frank to protect herself and their son, Patrick. Initially, Baker laughs it off, but the weight of her words lingers in his mind.
