In 1985, we meet Police Sgt. Jack Ramsay, a tortured widower who struggles with his fear of heights while raising his son, Bobby. Despite personal challenges, he is determined to fulfill his duty in the police force.

Ramsay is transferred to the Runaways division, tasked with handling problems caused by malfunctioning robots that have taken over many jobs. His arrival marks a shift in focus as he adapts to new challenges in a changing world.

Ramsay is partnered with Thompson, a highly skilled officer who has dabbled in various careers, including computer programming. Their chemistry becomes evident as they begin to navigate their complicated work environment together.

Their initial mission takes them to a farm where they successfully handle a situation involving rampaging pest-control robots. Using a helicopter, they capture the errant machines, demonstrating their teamwork and skill.
