Road House

Troubled former UFC middleweight fighter Elwood Dalton, portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal, finds himself navigating the murky waters of the underground fighting scene, where he resorts to scamming fellow fighters to make ends meet. His life takes a turn when Frankie, played by Jessica Williams, the head of a lively yet chaotic roadhouse in the Florida Keys known as The Road House, offers him a position as head bouncer. Initially, she had her eyes set on Carter from Post Malone, but when Carter refuses to fight Dalton due to his notorious reputation, the choice is clear.

Frankie explains how her establishment has become a hub for troublemakers who destroy the property and intimidate patrons, all while the police turn a blind eye. With all her previous bouncers quitting, she entices Dalton with an impressive weekly salary of $5,000 to help restore order. Just before accepting the job, Dalton narrowly avoids a disastrous suicide attempt involving a freight train that obliterates his car, pushing him to take the plunge into this new role.

Upon arriving at The Road House, Dalton befriends Charlie, portrayed by Hannah Lanier, a young girl who manages a local bookstore with her father, Stephen, played by Kevin Carroll. As Dalton settles into his new life, he quickly finds himself confronting a rowdy motorcycle gang led by Dell, depicted by J.D. Pardo, who works for the local crime lord Ben Brandt, brought to life by Billy Magnussen. After a successful scuffle that sends the gang members to the hospital, he encounters Ellie, played by Daniela Melchior, a doctor who treats his wounds, creating an instant bond.

Dalton’s living situation is in a run-down houseboat provided by Frankie, and he begins mentoring fellow bouncers like Billy, portrayed by Lukas Gage, while earning respect from the local patrons. However, the warning from Ellie regarding the dangers of crossing the wrong people echoes in his mind. When Dell attempts to take revenge on Dalton, a confrontation leads to a harrowing scene where Dalton tries but fails to save Dell from being devoured by a crocodile.

As the plot thickens, it’s revealed that Brandt has plans to demolish the Road House to make way for an upscale real estate project. Adding to the tension, the psychotic enforcer Knox, portrayed by Conor McGregor, is unleashed by Brandt’s imprisoned father to hunt Dalton down. After a tense night out with Ellie, Dalton finds himself at gunpoint confronted by Sheriff Joaquim De Almeida. The sheriff threatens Dalton, pushing him to flee, but Ellie, who is secretly his daughter, intervenes, revealing the corrupt ties her father has with Brandt.

In a surprising encounter at The Road House, Brandt lays his past to bare, tormenting Dalton over a UFC match that tragically ended with Dalton killing his opponent. Amid escalating violence, Dalton learns that Brandt has resorted to desperate measures to secure funds for his ventures. When Brandt’s goons endanger Charlie and Stephen by torching their bookstore, Dalton’s fury ignites, leading him to exact revenge on those responsible.

Dalton takes decisive action, capturing a corrupt deputy involved in Brandt’s criminal dealings, thereby setting a plan in motion to rescue Ellie when she is kidnapped under the pretense of a cash exchange. In a thrilling display of bravery, Dalton commandeers a bomb-laden motorboat intending to confront Brandt on his yacht, only to discover a tangled web of deception when Brandt turns on his own sheriff.

The film culminates in chaotic confrontations, with Dalton ultimately confronting Knox in a gripping showdown in the Road House, leaving both men grappling with their violent pasts. As the dust settles, the sheriff agrees to cover for Dalton, paving the way for Frankie and Stephen to reclaim their lives. Charlie bids farewell to Dalton as he boards a bus out of town, leaving behind a trunk filled with cash to support her family. In a chilling mid-credits scene, it’s revealed that Knox has survived, hinting at further chaos yet to come.
